You guys think it would be a good idea for the Twins to sign Varitek and carry three catchers? He is 40 but he would add some catching depth which is always good for Mauer and he could probably DH too.

The big question that this raises..............what would we ever do with Butera?! J/K

I this would be a good signing for the Twins! He kind of reminds me of Red-dog and I liked having that guy around! Its relatively low risk, if it doesn't work out, cut ties. Between Veritek, Mauer and Parmelee that gives us flexibility if Morneau goes down again.

Hopefully we will see more out of Mauer this year. It sounds like he is healthy and ready to go which was not the case last year but he played anyway and made it worse.

Play hurt and succeed: You're a hero. Play hurt and further injure yourself: You're stupid. What's a player to do?

PC - What's a player to do?? In Joe's case, go to the bank and deposit another monster pay-check! This guy needs a serious " come to Jesus" meeting with mgmt. before they send in for the lobotomy he so sorely needs! Gimmee Joe's money...I'd behave!

jrs.- Good call on the Red-Dog! we all should have a t-shirt with his picture on it saying, "Miss me yet?"

PC - Varitek, Pudge...sure if the money isn't too exorbitant. Cut Drew?...absolutely! he hits worse than Nicky P.! Mauer is gonna go down again, we all know that, and it's to be expected playing catcher with a bad knee. Put Joe at 1b and be done with it! Let Morneau earn his job back.

Why, oh why, did we trade Cuddy with Morneau such an unknown?? Cuddy played 1b just fine.

jrs., you work in the "bush" all day...let me re-phrase that...you work in the forest all day, don't you? I know you would not junk an old truck that starts everytime and never breaks down even though it's covered with rust. Cuddy was so darned reliable and flexible to the Twins and they somehow see fit to trade him when Mauer & Morneau are coming off terrible seasons and haven't proved they are back to form. Put it this way: I wouldn't get in a boat owned by the Pohlad's to cross Lake of the Woods based on the Cuddy fiasco!! Those 2-Pohlads have shown me no common-sense at all. Yikes!!

I think that the Twins will be weening baby Jesus off of the catchers position more this year.

That's what all the scuttle around the water cooler is.
He's gained his weight back and he's healthy.

That smilie of yours reminded me of my beautiful bride, Lena, when we was a'courting. There she was sittin' in her Father's buckboard playing a Dolly Parton tape on her boom-box. (I'm talking about a "radio" in case any of you have other ideas!)

PC - The chatter has been way down this off-season all over Twinsville and the web-sites. I think most of us are waiting to see what comes out of S.T. We're all shell-shocked after last year.

I expect to mill around the S.T. fields quite a bit to see Mauer & Morneau, and especially, Nishi. I ain't no expert but me and my posse were all astounded at how inept he looked taking infield practice last year. It was flat-out glaring! Maybe he worked his butt off this Winter on fundamentals and will have a good year. I sure hope so.

I'm very excited about the Marlin's, however. What a zoo this could be, what with Ozzie as the mgr., and everything. If they, and the Cubs win, it would be good for the game as a whole.

Gotta go, Lena said something about, "where's the hose" ....

Marlins are going to be interesting to watch this year for sure. There are a lot of big changes going on there. I hope they don't cause too much trouble for the Philles in the NL East!

As for the Twins, yeah last season was a bummer to say the least. I am optimistic about Mauer this season from what I have been hearing about him. A healthy Mauer coming off a bad season just seems to me like a big bounce back season waiting to happen. :high5:

Morny I am still doubtful on unfortunately. He just hasn't been the same guy since that last concussion he sustained. It will be interesting to see what he looks like this year. I would love to see him come out guns blazing and revitalize his career but it that doesn't happen it may be the end of playing ball for him. :nonod:

I am hopeful for Nishi. I know a lot of adjusting comes into play when making the move from Japan and Japanese baseball to America and American baseball. In order for Nishi to not be a complete waste of time he is going to have to show much improvement this season which is something I would love to see for him after that rough season he had last year.

No matter what happens I will be there for the ride and I will still probably end up making a trip out to Target Field this summer because is there really anything better than taking in a good ball game in the summer time? :pop2:

PC - I keep forgetting that you are a dedicated Phillies fan so it's tough for you to root for the Marlins. I respect that. I'm just looking for a good race and something to drum up interest down here before we lose the Rays and the Marlins someday. I think the Rays are hanging on by a thread. Even when they win they don't draw. I know as I go to a couple games a month and I'm 120 miles 1-way. 10-15,000 fans on a good day. That don't pay the bills. The A/C cost alone in that dome must be staggering.

Morny is done. I truly feel that. Concussions are no joke. They "cooled" Aikman, Koskie, Archie Manning, soon Sydney Crosby, and the list goes on & on. Why we let Cuddy go in the face of this bewilders me! It's like deliberately leaving the spare-tire for the boat trailer at home when you go on a long trip. What am I missing in all of this?

My gut says Nishi worked all Winter on his fundamentals and my get as good as a guy like Casilla, but not to the level Bill Smith was led to believe. We'll see soon enough.

All eyes will be on Mauer in 2012. If he has a big year look for the Twins to trade him to get out from under the contract. I smell this from a mile away.

It's big-business, I get it......

Well I got the same story PC did from a couple weeks back. I fished the Brainerd Ice Fishing tournament this weekend and got skunked. There were plenty of those pesky bottle bass around though, actually there were a few too many . It was good time though!

Well, at least you got out and had some fun! Did you ever try Lake of the Woods? I was always wanting to try it. Apparently, they take you out 20+ miles in one of those Bombadier ice-vehicles to some reefs and leave you there for a day or two in a descent(sp?) shack. I'm told the sauger action is always hot with walleyes mixed-in. Sounds fun, anyway.

The crappies have to be pretty good in your area this time of the year. I knew some people from Leech Lake that waited till just before & after sundown to nail 'em. Fish a couple of hrs. and fill a pail with some hugh(sp?) ones. With my posse the pail would be full of beer bottles.

Yeah, it was a good time. I haven't been to Lake of the Woods for 2 years. Last time I went we brought our own house. 3 years ago I got together with a buddy and we put together a wheel house. We pretty much went all out on it. 8' x 20', forced air furnace, tongue and groove, satelite dish / 46" flat screen, retractable bunks, its good place to drink beer and play some 6-5-4 or Cribbage. If I think of it, next time out I'll take some pictures of it and post them. Its very easy to spend 3 days on the ice in it. Last time we went to Lake of the woods we went out 16 miles, we did all-right there, but nothing bites after dark for some reason up there, so if a guy spends the night in the fish house that is a bit of a draw back with that lake. We have been doing a Yearly trip to Red lake in January and that is a fun lake to fish as well, we always fair pretty good on the walleyes there.
I haven't fished Leech on the ice for a really long time, but I always hit Leech on the week after Memorial day weekend. I haven't found the crappies yet, I guess I've spent all my time chasing the Walleyes up there.
I did get a tip a while back about a spot where a guy can go to catch some hugh 5 pound crappies. Let me know if want directions!

Hugh 5-lb. crappies, huh? You weren't fishing with the Pohlad family on their private crappie preserve were you? I mean, it's well-known that you know all those big-shots from your days as a brilliant H.S. 3rd base coach. Too bad you hate Gardy so much, else I go fishing with you.

Speaking of Memorial weekend trips, I liked invading Lake Vermillion for non-stop crappies & sunnies. We'd fish the emerging pencil-weeds casting 1/16 oz. jigs with twister tails only and drive those fat sunnies wild. A slow retrieve on the shore lines really worked well. Crappies were always mixed in and as the sun set they'd turn on. After dark we'd troll shallow-running plugs along the shore-lines and nail lots of big crappies.

You know what's funny is that I live maybe 90 miles from Lake Okochobee and I've yet to fish it. It has big crappies along with the hugh(sp??) bass it's so well known for. Gettin' lazy, I guess.

Later, bro!
