Just curious if anyone here coaches and of so at what level.

Coach middle school ball. Looking to see how many people coach, if so what are some drills you run. Fixing to start up spring and was just curious how many guys actually do some coaching.

Calling plays on xbox is a lot less nerve wracking than in a real game.

I use to rail OC’s for play calling etc. Then i became OC of a team and I’ll tell you, it is not as easy as when I am playing NCAA Football 14 with the entire playbook pulled up, with play diagrams, and knowing all my players will do exactly what I called for.

No but I sleep in a Holiday Inn Express from September to January and I watch Any Given Sunday a lot. I think I got the gist of it.

I can tell you just from when I played at the age you coach just how tough it is. Even in middle school having a QB with a good football IQ (relatively speaking) is important because the one year we had a guy who started at QB and had to switch positions because he'd do things like hand off to the wrong side. Being a WR/TE I remember being in the huddle during an early game and him getting what routes we were supposed to run get mixed up.

Making your terminology so your players can pick them up can be a challenge at times. I just thought of probably 4 different formations and basically just using them as an extension of our base plays with a few wrinkles. Yet, exactly as you said, if my qb gets confused or my kids confuse the blocking scheme it’s dead in the water.

I coach my daughters t-ball team.

My main focus is trying to stop the kids from eating dirt, chasing butterflies, and leaving the field. Hope this helps.

I help 'coach' a 9 - 10 year old flag football team. I actually love it.

'Coach' is in quotes because that's code for mostly getting kids to stop chasing junebugs and run after the kid with the ball.

We run 20 yard run drills, do sprints, and crabwalks. But we also eat snowcones.

Coach middle school ball. Looking to see how many people coach, if so what are some drills you run. Fixing to start up spring and was just curious how many guys actually do some coaching.

I coached 40 some years ago (HS ball) Coached for 5 years, (OL/DL/LB) won District titles all 5 years and played
for the Florida State title twice. (Got beat both times)

The most important thing we ever stressed was something that really won't help you in Middle School, which is developing
strength. Strength gives your players confidence.

Condition your players. Play 'em both ways, if you don't have 22 that can play. I don't mean line up, I mean be able
to play.

All drills are pretty standard. Don't over coach what you have. If I was going to recommend an offense, I'd suggest
the run and shoot. The real run and shoot, not all the off brands. 5 OL...2 splits...2 wings...QB and a tailback.
One wingback is in motion every play. Either short motion or extended motion. You can run any offense you desire
and everyone you want and it is easy for the players to learn. You can play, veer, wishbone, split-T, or sprint out.
If your QB breaks contain and can throw on the run, you put the cornerback into the position of whatever he does,
he's wrong.

KNOW what your opponent is going to do and how well their players are coached. You can take advantage of well
coached football teams by having some influence blocking. BUT, you cannot influence DL that are poorly coached.
They'll take the path of least resistance and screw up the play.

Take what they give you. No defense can cover every spot on the field.

Defensively, again, Know Your Opponent. If he is going to run the ball 90% of the time, practice run defense 90%
of the time. You've only got 2 hours on the practice field and usually only one hour of team drills. Don't spend 30
minutes of pass defense preparing for a team that will only throw it 5 times a game. TAKE AWAY WHAT THEY
DO BEST.

I could type for 3 more hours, but I ain't gonna do that.

Next you simplify the playbook so even the other idiots know what it is.

Thanks. We are pretty intense. Think we are the only team that A. Watched film and B. Films and scouts opponents (with the limited info we have from the tape).

Played for a coach that was very intense and even though you may hate him at the time, he has made me the person I am today. We usually won by a ton, but we never ran up the score intentionally which is something I’ve always taken with me. We may have put back out the 1 defense to preserve a shut out (which I guess could be considered the same thing) but I can’t stand when teams are up by 28 and running gadget plays.

lol

T-ball is hilarious.

When my youngest daughter played, I was at a game where a kid from the other team hit the ball...all of the kids on her team went running after the ball.

As they were chasing the ball, a squirrel ran across the field.

The entire team turned as one and started chasing the squirrel.

The coach just shook his head and laughed

As a player we usually won by big margins also. We were a talented town with a good coach. We ran up the score once,
but that was for one of our players. Our kicker had never kicked a FG. (There was never a need). We were up 19-0 in
our last game and with around 40 seconds to play, in his senior year, we trotted him out there and he booted a 32-yarder.
Really wasn't that big of a deal.

We ran it up twice when I was coaching. Both times to shut opponent Coaches mouths. One was in the Sectional Title
Game. The Williston coach had shot his mouth off all week. That and we were 18 point underdogs, according to the
Orlando Sentinel. Well, we were up 47-12, at their place, with around 3 minutes to go. Their players were getting
a bit touchy with some late hits. So we ran, what started out as a Veer option play and our QB took two steps back
and hit our WR in stride for 75 yards. We beat 'em 54-12. (That got them really mad then)

In the regular season we played Mt Dora. Two years earlier, they had a helluva team, but never realized their
abilities. (He wasn't that much of a coach...the players were in charge of that team) He was quoted in the
paper, a few days before that game two years earlier, "I've always respected Clermont, but they're not in our league
anymore." Well, we played them off their feet in that one but they still managed a 28-20 win.

Fast Forward to the shoe being on the other foot and we scored with roughly 6 minutes to play to go up 45-6.
We then lined up, kicked an onside kick, and got the ball back. We would score with 3 minutes to play to go up
and win 51-6. When the game was over he came across the field and yelled at us..."What was that all about?"
I responded..."I bet we're in your fucking league now." He denied making the statement and said he had
been misquoted and the whatnot.

btw...Always use a gadget play every game possible. You know you are being scouted. Let them waste 20 minutes
of their practice time working on something that you really aren't going to use.

Actually put in a new gadget play every week. Gives the kids something fun to focus on. We may have run one of those plays once, but I plan on using them a bit more next year.

As best as I can remember we only ran a gadget play three times as a coach. Two of them in one game. But it wasn't
so much a gadget play but we knew they would send a lb following a man in motion. (From two previous games against
other teams) We put our tailback in motion (which we never did) and just ran a sprint out to the right side. (We wanted to see
how they would defend that.) They did what we thought...they just shift lb's over two gaps, rather than chasing with their
MLB. The next time we ran it, we gave the ball on an inside handoff to our front side wing back running a counter. (It resembled the old Syracuse scissors play. But by moving those lb's our center was uncovered an could seal the back side
lb and the ballcarrier went around 50 yds smack down the middle of the field.

When I played I can only remember running one trick play and that lost us a couple of yards. But we never practiced
against a team running a trick play. During our Thursday walk-thru, when the defense was going thru preparations
for what the other team would run, the coaches would always have the offense come out in some wild formation.
We were taught to identify how they were lining up and all 11 players were taught to call time-out immediately.
(Then we could discuss it in case they did it again.)

I have coached at the youth level for a few years. Started out in the 3rd & 4th grade leagues were it was the players' first taste of organized tackle football. It was alright, but not as fun as 5th & 6th grade league. My two years there, I have played in the championship game. I won the first one to cap a perfect season with the team that was supposed to be the third best in talent. I lost last years to the team that definitely had the most talent. We were in it until late in the 4th when they busted a 75 yd pass play after they stopped us from tying the game inside the 5 (we have 80 yd fields).
