The Lakers Season with James was like having a Bugatti with no seats, wheels or engine.

Pretty to look at.

But, you're going nowhere FAST.

Getting him was a big deal.

That's why them missing the playoffs is so unfathomable.

I didn't think they'd make the playoffs. Michael Jordan wouldn't make this team competitive. They're in a full rebuild besides one aging superstar. I figured that the fireworks for them were going to happen this off-season when guys like Durant and Boogie are going to be on the market to add another marque star.

He did the right thing. But c'mon, he did it in the worst way possible.

Good that he kept his word despite the fact that he could have used the injuries as an excuse.

Good that he did it early enough so that they can get someone in place before FA starts.

But you don't do it by holding an impromptu press conference when you haven't informed anyone else in the organization.

End of the day, he's spread too thin and either couldn't or didn't want to dedicate the time it takes to run an NBA franchise.

Lost a lot of respect for him for handling it this way.

This is about right.

I honestly think that Magic thought he was just going to get players to come to LA because he is Magic which was more than a bit naive, IMO.

From what I'm hearing he got slapped down in the last 24 hours, possibly about firing Walton, and simply said "Fuck this". Perhaps the Lakers can make him the scapegoat and try to move on from a pretty awkward year. If anything his abrupt end may help to cauterize some wounds.

This is a joke. Magic is being a little bitch. Never thought I'd say that but its true. To resign in this fashion and not tell anyone is beyond ridiculous. If he didn't have so many friends in the media, he'd be getting killed for doing this and getting killed for how bad he's been at this job. But just watch over the next couple of days who tries to protect him.

Magic quit because the job got hard. PERIOD. He had no idea what he was doing so he just quit. What pisses me off the most about it is for years he undermined Jim Buss and Mitch Kupcheck through who his friends in the media and with his own interviews/social media. He was constantly taking jabs making it difficult for them. It was obvious he wanted their job. It was no accident he was always in Jeanie's ear and right by her side when she finally got full control. Then he gets the job he wanted, finds out its actually work, and then bounces (but only after making a mess of things). If you go back, I had reservations about his ability to do this job but I never thought he'd do some bullshit like this. Gonna take awhile for my sour opinions of him to wear off because this is some straight up bullshit.

But in a weird way, its for the best. He and Pelinka have no business in their jobs. What Jeanie needs to do now is stop being so passive and burn this shit down and start over. Stop hiring people just because they have Lakers ties. Hire the people that have the best qualifications. If they've been with the Lakers, don't even bother. The one exception is Jerry West, but only bring him in as an advisor (Jeanie admittedly doesn't know basketball. She'll need advice). He's too old for the President role. And for stop being so damn cheap. Hire a fully staffed analytics department and development/training staff (you know, shooting coaches would be nice...). It's been a pet peeve of mine for the last decade that his franchise is one of the wealthiest franchises in all of sports yet they skimp out on everything like they can only afford to shop at Dollar General.

high school, college, and nba championships all within 4 years. not bad for a coward.
Yep Magic won an NCAA championship as a sophomore and then the next year won an NBA championship as a rookie. Was he cut out to be a head coach or a president of a team, no Magic is too nice of a guy to be strict on players. Magic is anything but a coward.

greatest passing coward i ever saw.

him and jeanie probably had an understanding that he was there one year at a time. maybe we'll find out more later, but magic has a lot going on and doesn't need the work.

I'm hearing rumors behind the curtains that magic and Jeanie buss had a physical relationship when she was younger. Wowwww
Ewwww.

Ps. Shaq thinks they need to go after the Logo.

Can't say I disagree, even though I would hate it.

This is about the fairest assessment possible.

How he did it was as unprofessional as it gets.

....I'm sure Dwayne Wade loved it.

Fuck 'em....he stepped down in time for them to get an adequate replacement and pursue some FA's.....

He's getting ripped for mainly 2 things:

1) He was never committed to the job, which is arguably the most critical job of the team.
2) He didn't even have the balls to tell Jeannie Buss first.

Being a great basketball player doesn't equate to courage.
