It's pretty obvious AU paid Cam's dad $180K. Everybody cheats, that's for sure, however, now AU showed how you can get away with it. Have the player claim he had no knowledge of what was going on and have some rogue booster pay off the player's dad and have the school claim they had no idea what was going on. I know if I was USC, I would be pissed right now.

Unlike the USC case there was really no snitches or direct paper trail. You can only prove what you can prove I guess. I think the Newton family probably got money but if you cant prove it then it didnt happen. This may turn out to be a case like the Miami one where it comes out 6,8,10 years from now if the booster becomes disenfranchised with the program or it may never come out. Hell maybe it never happened. Without evidence though you cant punish.

the problem with comparing this to the usc case is that bush was paid by agents. And then he renegged on those agents and they blew the whistle on him. If auburn paid cam's dad directly then no one is getting screwed in the deal. Mr newton got what he wanted and so did auburn. No one needs to blow a whistle on anything in this case.

Excellent point.........I doubt the school itself paid Cam, but they definitely knew what was up. The NCAA declared Cam's dad did pimp his son out for money, that much is clear.

If you've read enough about the goings on at Auburn you know it's not just boosters. It's institutional. Enough people have come out about it to read the writing on the wall. Bobby Lowder is the mf king of getting away with it. It got hot enough he's gone now, but he built that house for sure.

And I disagree, not everyone does that. For one, I don't think Texas does that, and I don't think Iowa does that either (institutional misdeeds).

Oh, Texas does. Not extreme as paying an individual $180K, but they do. I'm sure Iowa does, too. Heck, my bro played college ball at New Mexico and he lived with 2 other players at this nice as hell house that was furnished and their rent was only $300/mo. Again, it's not extreme like Cam Newton or Reggie Bush's case, but that is still cheating, even at an irrelevant school like N. Mex......

Considering every school has at least a couple hundred booster, it is nearly impossible to police every single person. That being said, USC was punished based solely on the word of a felon, something that wouldn't be held up in a court of law.

I don't know if Auburn cheated or not, but they have had some shady board of trustees. You mentioned Bobby Lowder, so you probably know about the Colonial Bank. There was also Milton McGregor who was on trial last this year for bribing politicians.

Your post fails. There is nothing anywhere that points to Cam's dad actually getting anything. That is the difference between Auburn's case and any other one you want to bring up. The NCAA wouldn't need to find a paper trail or confession or motive...if they had evidence that showed Cecil got something they wouldn't need to be able to link it back to Auburn.

Boosters doing booster things after recruits arrive is not the same thing as I was referring to. And no, I don't think Texas does that nor does Iowa. Again I say institutional corruption is not the same thing as boosters hooking a guy up.

HighTide has read a bit about Lowders dealings. And perhaps how the Auburn booster funds tied back into the bank apparently for laundering purposes. Milton McGregor and that big FBI investigation...which may be still going on I don't know for certain.

There are changes coming for those booster club funds too. The NCAA will be taking steps to keep that shit out in the open more. There will also be additional rules put into place that control how those funds are employed. No link, just something I heard our AD say on the radio the other night.

I'm pretty sure that, a few months ago, the NCAA passed a rule in response to this saying that if the player or a family member / close friend takes money, the player is ineligible.

Yep. No reason at all.

A church $200,000 in debt and about to be foreclosed on randomly finds a wealthy donor just as Cam commits.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Like I said, they are/were trustees How do I, as a citizen of Alabama, know that these trustees are doing what is best for the citizens and students of this state when they go on trail for corruption? I may be a fan of UA, but I am smart enough to know what kind of impact AU has on this economy, and if they are busy lining their pockets with cash, then they aren't trying to help the citizens like they were appointed to do.

The silver lining out of all the trouble Bama was put through was that they cleared the house of the douchebags like Young and the administration workers that were involved, who were looking to take advantage of others for their own good. Now those assholes aren't around and the University is a thriving.

[/political rant]
