what yah face palming rex? i dont consider 30 catches a year revolutionizing the tight end position into a receiving position?

30 catches per year is great for a backup TE these days.

The change started somewhere and it wasn't at Tony Gonzalez' house.

Tony G. is soft as fuck and he doesn't exist without the ones I mentioned as well as a half dozen others changing the position before he finished high school.

Hi!
TOny G 77 recepetions a year avg
Kellen winslow 60 per year avg
dave casper 31.5 per year avg
ozzie newswom 51 per year avg

so yeah id say he changed the position........winslow can lay some claim, the other two , no
now take into account how many plays were in an NFL game back then vs. Tony G or Gronk.
Winslow, Newsome & few others were the start of the passing TE.
Only reason I dont consider Winslow possibly the best ever is he didnt have the longevity. (which to me needs to be a prerequisite) but he is one of the 1st to change the position.

You shouldn't focus on the number of catches per game as the barometer of when the position changed, but rather when the position morphed into a true offensive threat as opposed to a lineman that occasionally caught a few passes.

No offense dude, but there were quite a few guys before TG ( add Russ Francis to the list) that might not have put up crazy receiving numbers in a run first league yet were still instrumental in changing the position.

All the best to Gronk in retirement. One of the best Tight Ends of all time, got the personality to do something in the entertainment field.

Gronk was great a complete beast of a player. I will miss watching him perform. He for sure had lost a step this year and IMO is making the right choice.

I will however miss when he caught a ball yelling "GRONK"
