Thought I'd see if anybody gets a tickle or two from this. I am looking at headlines of major world events and decided to see if there's any baseball worth snipping. Well, yeah ... there is.

This one, depending on which matters the most to you, is either about Babe Ruth or the stinkin' evil Prohibition.

This appeared in the Chi Tribune the day the series opened. There were a couple of people who noticed. The problem was, gambling on baseball was common, even for the players. That the odds shifted maybe was about a player being hurt or the weather ... bookies all knew what it meant, but fans generally didn't. Most ordinary fans didn't bet. They didn't have the money to do that. The 'sore arm' thing was clearly phony and scribes who followed the team knew that. Fans might not have known. They didn't have instant internet.

Oct 9, 1934 ... Joe Medwick did a hard slide at 3rd base (Babe Ruth, asked to comment, said 'no quarter given or taken on a slide, meaning ... it's baseball.)

But the Tigers fans, pissed their team was being battered, threw garbage at Medwick and thus, Commissioner Landis (himself, an asshole) ordered Medwick removed from the game. St. Louis was ahead 9-0 at the time but Medwick was quite pissed.

It started the day before when a Cards guy spiked Mickey Cochrane who ceremoniously spent the night in the hospital (seriously?) as drama.

The game was not even a sellout.

If you look closely at 14 seconds into the clip, you can clearly see Pastafazul holding a white towel that is hanging over the wall.....

It's possible Connie Mack was a genius and it's likely he was guessing at it part of the time. The 1945 Browns were NOT the favorites to win the pennant despite this assertion.
