I like him, but thats pretty steep for what he's accomplished so far. Ingram at 4.4 per seems very reasonable and i like Mike Davis depending on his price.

I was stunned to see that Market Value so damn High for him.

I'd rather sign Davis for about half of the value they've got ZZ getting. They can be miss big on their market values.

Top 101 NFL free agents of 2019: DeMarcus Lawrence at No. 1

probably end up with signing players like the following in FA

CB Morris Claiborne

DE Cameron Wake

WR Cordarrelle Patterson

DB Jimmy Ward

TE Tyler Eifert

OL James Carpenter (was a 1st rd pick of Seattle and when Bevell was there)

Pass on Eifert, but the others would be cool as long as they ask for fare market value.

They were more sarcasm picks than anything else as I wouldn't want one those players realistically. It was more of a dig at BQ and his over-paid FA value signings for depth.

Cordarrelle wouldn't bother me quite as much but he's still a horrible route runner that mostly gets separation off his speed alone. I do like how N.E. used him in the run game though.

Furthermore, I'd much rather see BQ draft Butler in the 2nd round than to sign a high priced WR3.

Trade Tsunami 2.0? NFL ripe for more wheeling and dealing

Jahleel Addae, Chargers safety: As the Chargers' playoff win over the Ravens showed, the team has plenty of safeties. Addae could potentially offer starter snaps for a cheap price.

Jahleel Addae

Jahleel Addae | Central Michigan, SS : 2013 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

Jahleel Addae Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money, and Contract History | Over The Cap

4.750M base salary for 2019 (without 750k per game roster bonus) and 5.250M base salary (without 750K per game roster bonus)

Kenny Stills, Dolphins wide receiver: For a while, the debate in Miami was whether the team should commit to Stills, DeVante Parker or Jarvis Landry. Now they could all be gone. After previous decision-maker Mike Tannenbaum rewarded Stills with a three-year deal last offseason, the deep threat gained only 553 yards in 2018. That lack of production was hardly all Stills' fault, but a new staff in Miami may want a fresh start at the position. He's "only" due $14 million combined over the next two seasons, which would make him attractive in a trade.

BB_72; I wouldn't trade for either of them but maybe take a look see in 2nd wave of FA if they're released. You know, I miss the old "kick the tires on this guy or that guy". :noidea:
more so with Addae than Stills

easy pass.

Fluker has never lived up to being a mauler and has incredibly horrible footwork.

Vaccaro never put it together in New Orleans. He's been a liability in pass coverage.

Bob Quinn not ready to give up on Teez Tabor just yet https://wp.me/p7aES1-5oS

Quinn was very clear in praising Teez Tabor in this press conference but as Lions Wire’s Jeff Risdon points out, this type of behavior has been a precursor for bad news for the player involved in the past.

Player 100% available & at discount to where selected in draft #Lions Jalen ‘Teez’ Tabor. Big Long Corner with questionable speed. Cowboys one teams interested. Lions also opening trade on Theo Riddick & for right compensation A’Shawn Robinson... #NFLHotStove

6:42 PM - 20 Feb 2019

Yes, this tweet is from a week ago, but it’s relevant today as all 32 general managers and coaches will be at the NFL Combine and this is typically when trade deals start to take shape. It would take a serious amount of compensation to pry A’Shawn Robinson from the Lions but he is in a contract year and therefore vulnerable. As Risdon alluded to, Tabor could be on the trade block as could Theo Riddick, who we recently projected as being on the roster bubble.

BB_72; I left out the bottom portion in previous post regarding Forbes tweet. I doubt A'Shawn gets traded.

I wonder if this means they are eyeing Oliver at number 8?

I'm not sure what to think of it. A'Shawn struggles mightily on his own and only has produced when Ngata and Snacks were/are here.

I wouldn't be disappointed in Oliver but MP doesn't really utilize a one gap, vertical, penetrator. Maybe scheme change with different personnel. idk.

Football Outsider proposes free agency fix to Lions pass rush problem

The Detroit Lions have a pass rushing problem, that much is abundantly clear. While their sack numbers were actually above league average (t-11th), they were one of the worst teams at creating pressure. According to Pro Football Focus, only the Raiders had a worse pass-rushing grade than the Lions.

Understandably so, that has many Lions fans scouring the NFL Draft for edge rushers and pass-rushing threats from the interior. Adding a young talent is logical, especially when you consider how tough it is to find pass-rushing talent on the free agency market.

However, Football Outsiders (via ESPN In$ider) suggested a different approach. While the top-tier guys like DeMarcus Lawrence aren’t likely to hit free agency, they identified a couple of players that could be overlooked when the market opens—but would be particularly good fits in Detroit.

Football Outsider proposes free agency fix to Lions pass rush problem

To start, Football Outsiders suggested the Lions make a splash signing in Washington’s Preston Smith. Washington is not expected to use the franchise tag on their 2015 second-round pick, meaning the opportunity is there.

As for the player himself, there’s a lot to like about him. Smith had the highest pressure rate of any player in 2017, per NextGenStats. He’s coming off his highest graded season per PFF (76.9, 19th among edge defenders). He’s long (34-inch arms) and tall (6-foot-6), and hasn’t missed a game since entering the league.

He’s also a great fit for Detroit.

“He might not be the pure pass-rushing devil Lions fans are hoping for, but his athleticism and schematic ambiguity are perfect for Patricia’s defense,” Football Outsiders wrote.

The issue here is that the Lions paid a lot of money for a jack linebacker last year. Devon Kennard wasn’t great in 2018, but he was certainly effective at times, and the Lions are committed to him financially for at least another season. Meanwhile, Smith is expected to pull in a pretty hefty contract. Spotract estimates something in the range of four years, $44.8 million to net Smith in free agency.

Football Outsider proposes free agency fix to Lions pass rush problem

To complement the move, Football Outsider suggested adding another piece to the Lions’ pass rushing arsenal. Shaquil Barrett may not be a name you’re familiar with, but the 26-year-old outside linebacker has been a quiet contributor for the Broncos over the past four years. In 61 game appearances (nine starts), Barrett has 151 tackles, 14.0 sacks and seven forced fumbles.

“(Barrett) was the third pass-rusher in Denver for years and always played like one of the league’s best substitute rushers,” Football Outsiders noted. “Being a high-end sub rusher might not be a flashy title, but given the value of passing and pass rush in this league, the luxury of an effective pass-rusher off the bench is wonderful.”

The Lions’ edge rusher cupboard was extremely bare last seasons, which led to the Lions using guys like Romeo Okwara on upwards of 80 percent of snaps.

Many Lions fans are fixated on a guy like Trey Flowers in free agency (for good reason), but Football Outsiders’ proposal makes just about as much sense and may come slightly cheaper.

BB_72; of course we're fixated on Trey Flowers.

seems like Barrett might be a fit for LAR and Wade Davis especially if the Rams lose Dante Fowler.

I wouldn't object to Preston Smith if we can't get Flowers. Smith played in a 4-3 base for Miss-ST but also moved inside as a 3-tech rusher and played all over the DL even in some 3-4 alignments when former Miss-ST, now KC Chiefs, DL Chris Jones was there.

"still evaluating Lang and Ansah"
Let me save you some time Bobby. They've been in the league for years and have both already peaked. Also, both are extremely injury prone of late.
You're welcome.

Lions not worried about shared background in competition for free agents

That said, good players are good players in almost any scheme, and it will be interesting to see how those New England connections come into play when Patriots edge defender Trey Flowers hits the open market in March.

Flowers, despite never topping 7.5 sacks in a season, is well-regarded because of his strong fundamentals, ability to consistently pressure the passer and defend the run. The 25-year-old defender could command a deal rivaling the five-year, $85 million pact Olivier Vernon received from the Giants three years ago.

The Lions, Dolphins and Titans all should be in the market for a pass-rusher, and Patricia and Miami first-year head coach Brian Flores both coached Flowers in New England in recent years.

Finally

Detroit Lions, Romeo Okwara agree to a 2-year deal

Tom Pelissero‏Verified account @TomPelissero
The #Lions agreed to a two-year contract with DE Romeo Okwara, source said. Deal averages more than the 2nd-round RFA tender number with incentives on top. Locking up young player who flourished in first season under Matt Patricia with 7.5 sacks.

3:20 PM - 1 Mar 2019

Joel Corry‏ @corryjoel
With a 6.21% increase in the NFL salary cap to $188.2M, the RFA tenders are:

1st round: $4.407M
2nd round: $3.095M
Low: $2.025M

So the two sides have agreed on a two-year deal worth more than $6 million total. And by agreeing to terms, the Lions have made sure that Okwara is wrapped up for the next two years. Had the Lions chosen to give Okwara the second-round tender, opposing teams could have offered the defensive end a better contract, giving Detroit only a second-round draft pick in return.
