I just want to make it perfectly clear that the choice of FA CB Kareem Jackson wasn't mine.

That honor goes to @Rollingthndr.

I originally gave a no nod to the aforementioned choice just like I did to the mention of S Landon Collins but after thinking it over I retracted in both instances. I believe both would be excellent additions as one would be short term (2-3 year for Jackson) and Collins the long term 5 year contract solution. jmo.

If we got two guys of this caliber in FA, competitiveness could be possible.

I guess the same as if they brought in a solid WR, RB and TE.

Lots of holes with only so many picks.

Hammer is back btw, Kraft threads... it's a good day at tHoop.

@broncosmitty … you might want to read this. Belichick is one thing but MP is out of the same mold and I'd guess Collins was implying his distaste while playing for Saban as well. The article was printed January 10, 2018.

Giants' Landon Collins doesn't want Bill Belichick as his coach | Boston.com

Giants safety Landon Collins doesn’t want Bill Belichick to leave for New York: Despite being indisputably one of the greatest head coaches of all time, Bill Belichick isn’t someone that Giants safety Landon Collins wants as the team’s replacement for the recently fired Ben McAdoo, according to Zach Braziller of the New York Post:

The way he runs his organization, I’ve been through that process. I don’t like it. It’s too strict. …. He’s a great winner, he’s a great coach. I don’t know if [his style] is what the organization really wants.

I talked to guys who played for [his] team. They love winning, but at the same time, they don’t want to be on the team.

Yeah, guessing he might be like WTF when they practice outside for no reason what so fucking ever.

If he doesn't want to play for Hoodie, zero chance he comes to our shitshow attempt.

Detroit Lions get no compensatory picks for 2019 NFL draft

General manager Bob Quinn said last spring that accounting for the compensatory formula in free-agent signings was "important, but it's not going to drive my decisions."

"It’s one of those things where, do you talk about it when you get into the second and third week of free agency?" Quinn said. "It comes up in the conversations, but it’s not like, 'Hey, if I don’t sign this guy, I’m going to get a comp pick, but you know what, I really want this guy, we need him this year.' So it’s a conversation piece, but it’s not a driver of decisions."

BB_72; It gives you an idea about the thought process that goes into decision making on those 2nd and 3rd wave FA signing on whether it will have an affect on losing out in following years comp picks. It definitely crosses BQ's mind on whether or not to sign some FA depending on who they lost in FA that were signed by others and vice-versa.

Obviously it's not. We weren't awarded any picks.

Well, that sucks if they extend Jesse. I was counting on that FA signing.

In further developments, my proposed trade down so BQ gets his TE still looks legit.

Draft them or sign them? How the Lions will address running back

Mike Davis was second on the depth chart behind Chris Carson in Seattle last season but was expected to drop to the third option behind first-round pick Rashaad Penny in 2019. When his name was called upon, he was efficient and effective, hitting 514 yards at 4.6 yards per carry, 214 receiving yards, while only playing less than 40 percent of snaps. His versatility as a runner and pass catcher is exactly what the Lions look for in backs. Davis signed a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Seahawks last season, according to Over the Cap. With his low mileage, age, and breakout season expect an uptick in his previous contract, but still affordable for the Lions.

Draft them or sign them? How the Lions will address running back

Jay Ajayi saw his season end prematurely, tearing his ACL after four games. In that span, he rushed for 184 yards but only averaged 4.1 yards per carry. Since entering the league, he has shown to be one of better between-the-tackle runners, providing a mix of speed and power, averaging about 3.04 yards after contact and forcing over 40 missed tackles per season. Being a former No. 1 running back, he can handle the workload if needed and provide a security blanket for the Lions in case of injury. Spotrac has his market value at two years, $7.2 million, but because of his degenerative knee condition, he will probably only land a one-year/prove-it deal, which Quinn has shown he has no problem handing out.

It's a no for me on Ajai but wouldn't have a problem with Mike Davis on the cheap.

I'm surprised with the market value of ZZ but SpoTrac is usually more of a miss than a hit. imo

Draft them or sign them? How the Lions will address slot receiver

Free Agents
Adam Humphries could not have picked a better time to hit free agency, enjoying a breakout season; recording career highs in receptions (76), yards (816), and touchdowns (5); and this was with an unstable quarterback situation in Tampa Bay. He was able to show his ability to get open, make clutch catches, and rack up yards after the catch by going 15-20 on third and fourth down situations and 49 of his 76 receptions going for first downs. His Spotrac market value is four years, $41.7 million, but with his age (25), skill set, and productivity, he could be worth the price to round out the Lions receiving corps.

Golden Tate has shown to one of the best creating yards after the catch earning the nickname ‘The YAC King” during his Detroit tenure. The Lions traded him midseason to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third round pick, but it was a tale of two seasons for Tate. Seven games with the Lions, he had 517 yards and three touchdowns, but eight games with the Eagles he was underused, recording only 278 yards and one touchdown. Spotrac has his market value at three years, $30.6 million, which may be too expensive, but reuniting with the Lions and his old offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell may be enticing for the 30-year-old receiver.

Cole Beasley has been a fan favorite in Dallas ever since he was brought in as an undrafted free agent. Because of his strong ability to separate allowing him to accumulate yards after the catch; he was heavily targeted with the Cowboys amassing 323 targets through four years. This year he had 65 catches and 672 yards, both good for second on the team. K.D. Drummond of Cowboys Wire estimated Beasley’s contract around three years, $22.44 million, he would be the cheaper option and bring a veteran presence to Detroit.
