I like this kid above as a future replacement for Theo Riddick.

Williams needs to vastly improve in pass-pro but so did Riddick. It took Riddick until 2015 until his pass-pro became efficient.

  • NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah "wouldn't be surprised" if Vanderbilt CB Joejuan Williams was the best corner in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Williams (6'3/208) checked-in as Jeremiah's No. 47 overall player earlier this week, but it appears that he may be ranked higher whenever his next rankings come out. Jeremiah is a fan of Williams' size and strength and even mentions him as an ideal fit for the Seattle Seahawks. As a junior, Williams deflected 13 passes and collected four interceptions. Williams has emerged as a legit second-round prospect.

JJ Williams is getting more and more press as the days go by.

I was hoping for our 3rd round pick. Maybe becoming not as easy as I was hoping.

@Old Lion pretty much my sentiments regarding Hakeem Butler in the following

Rotoworld fantasy sports news and analysis for NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, CFB, Golf, EPL and NASCAR

Philadelphia Eagles writer and draft analyst Fran Duffy lists Ole Miss WR A.J. Brown as the wideout with the "most to prove" at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Brown (6'1/225) gets the specific mention, but Duffy admits that there are many, many wide receivers who have much to prove at the event. "Can they separate themselves athletically?", Duffy asks. "A handful of bigger wideouts were selected much later in the draft, primarily due to a lack of athleticism and the ability to separate." Brown, Arizona State's N'Keal Harry and NC State's Kelvin Harmon all fit this description, but specifically for Brown, showing the ability to separate with speed and get by defensive backs will be big if he wants to challenge his college teammate DK Metcalf to be the first wideout selected in April.

NFL.com's Lance Zierlein and Daniel Jeremiah list Notre Dame CB Julian Love as a player the Oakland Raiders should watch at the NFL Scouting Combine.

It's very unlikely that Love is going to come off the board in the first round at this point, but he did run a 4.46 second 40-yard dash at his pro day in January, and he was among the best corners in college football this season. The Raiders need help anywhere, and a cover corner like Love -- or the potential to be one, anyway -- would certainly be a fit either late on Day 1 or early on Day 2.

2019 NFL Scouting Combine: One player for each team to watch

OAKLAND RAIDERS: Julian Love, CB, Notre Dame. The Raiders need help everywhere. Love has what new general manager Mike Mayock and coach Jon Gruden want: toughness and playmaking ability. He will likely come off the board in the second round.

10 cornerbacks the Detroit Lions could target in NFL draft

Julian Love

College: Notre Dame

Ht: 5-11 | Wt: 193

Love was three-year starter who had 63 tackles, one interception, 16 pass break-ups and three fumble recoveries this season as a junior. He was an All-American and one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award. Kiper ranked Love as the No. 4 cornerback available in the draft.

The 101 best players in college football from 2018 | NFL Draft news and analysis | Pro Football Focus

Love’s best football was played at his position’s highest priority: in coverage. He finished with the fourth-highest coverage grade among cornerbacks and forced an incompletion on 22.8% of his targeted passes. His 14 stops in coverage were good enough for seventh most this year as he had no trouble bringing down ball carriers whether it was a receiver or a running back. In total, he missed just four of his 64 tackle attempts this year.

College Football Playoff 2018: Ranking the top 18 impact players from the four teams

7. Notre Dame cornerback Julian Love: Here's your shutdown corner for the playoff. Love was a Thorpe Award finalist and had a good case to win the thing. He's Notre Dame's career leader in pass break-ups with 15 alone this season. Cornerback is one of those positions defined by the lack of production, though, and Love is a good tactician of the position. He'll draw the toughest assignments in the Cotton Bowl, and history says he'll have a lot of success.

NFL Draft 2019: Prospects at each position who improved their stock the most this season

Running back
Elijah Holyfield, Georgia

Holyfield -- yes, the son of Evander -- patiently sat behind Georgia legends Sony Michel and Nick Chubb for two seasons and took full advantage of his opportunity as the lead back for the Bulldogs in his junior year. He enters the College Football Playoff with a hefty 6.5 yards-per-carry average and 965 yards on the ground to go along with seven rushing touchdowns. The rocked-up runner has a polished skill set ... he's typically very efficient, getting North-South as quickly as possible, but he's proven to have scary twitchiness to jump cut to the outside or against the grain on outside runs. He's capable of making multiple cuts on a short run to elude defenders. And yes, he's a bowling ball to tackle because of his chiseled, compact frame. Don't be stunned when he lands on Day 2 or early Day 3 after carrying the ball just 56 times in his first two seasons in Athens.

Honorable mention: Miles Sanders, Penn State

I'd like nothing more than a 1-2 punch of CB's drafted in the 2nd and 3rd round depending on FA especially if the Lions can move down into the 17-29 range, all the while picking up a 2nd round and/or a couple 3rd round picks trading down or 3-4 rd. round picks trading down as far as 29. Obviously whoever is left at #8 greatly depends on any trade downs.

CB Julian Love doesn't get much respect in the CB prospect media universe, imo.

NFL.com's Bucky Brooks lists LSU CB Greedy Williams as the top corner in the 2019 draft class.
Williams (6'2/182) is followed by Washington's Byron Murphy, with Georgia's Deandre Baker, Clemson's Trayvon Mullen and Temple's Rock Ya-Sin rounding out the top five. Brooks doesn't believe there's a "lockdown" corner, but does see several potential starters in this group. Brooks believes there are questions about Williams' speed, but his ball skills and instincts make up for it. Murphy has passed Williams in many analysts' eyes, but because of his size and impressive tape, it would not be an upset if he was the first corner that came off the board in April.

I almost agree with Brooks' assessment in not fully believing that there is a lock down corner in this class.

I don't believe there is a CB in this draft class worthy of a top 15 selection

Detroit Lions mailbag: Here's who I'd pick at No. 8 in NFL draft

Favorite sleepers in the draft this year? - @LionsMock

Let's finish this off with a football question. As I said, I'm just now starting to dig into the draft so I might have a better answer for you in March, once we get through free agency. But I'll give you a couple names that aren't first-round picks that are on my radar.

Charles Omenihu is a big defensive lineman from Texas who seems like he'd fit the Lions system. He's 6 feet 6, had 9½ sacks last season, and if the Lions don't go defensive end in Round 1 they'll still need to address the position at some point.

Likewise, I think the Lions need to add a defensive back or two in this draft, and there's a couple Day 3 prospects out of Boston College, cornerback Hamp Cheevers and safety Lukas Dennis, who fit the "playmaker" description that Quinn spelled out in January and who the team has some familiarity with through Pasqualoni. Both players are undersized, but had seven-interception seasons.

Finally, he was one of the best players at the Senior Bowl so maybe he doesn't qualify as a true sleeper, but South Carolina receiver Deebo Samuel is a player who could come off the board on Day 2 and would be an instant upgrade to the Lions' passing game.

I'm big on drafting Omenihu in 2nd round if they don't don't draft a DE/Edge Rusher in 1st round.

I mentioned Omenihu more than a month ago, Birkett (glad he got the idea from me, lol).

For the love of all that is holy — please do not draft a TE with the 8th pick in the draft.

CBS has TJ Hockenson as the Lions pick. :gaah:

I have him as number 8 behind Samuel. There are a group of a half dozen WRs with him that could be ranked interchangeably and I put him at the top. They put him on the bottom. I just like what I have seen on video. I didnt see too much of what was in that draft sites analysis.
