Hate to get everyone’s titties dragging the floor but I Tthink that since Harper and his wife are both from Nevada, their real desire is to settle in a warm weather port like LA or Frisco. That feeling hammered home in their brains by the current ice age.

That’s what is taking all this time. He’s waiting for a new offer to rise to the surface after certain teams make the needed trades and financial adjustments. City of brotherly love, forget it.

I thought the Dodgers might until they signed pollock. Don't see any of those teams being interested anymore. Maybe San Diego.

Probably correct. And he can't be holding out for a deal with Miami, partially owned by a group that includes Derek Jeter and Michael Jordan, because I read that the Marlins are $400 million in debt.

Interesting note about the Marlins. Jeffrey Loria bought the team in 2002 for $158 million, and sold it in 2017 for $1.2 billion.

I think Harper's and Machado's chances of a 10-year contract in excess of $300 million are all but gone now. Only way I see either of them getting that money would be Harper if he re-ups with the Nats. Otherwise, why would a team willing to offer either player that much money wait until February to sign them. It would make far more sense to sign them in November-December and then market them to bring in more season ticket purchasers.

Yeah, it would make no sense for the Marlins to dump their financial obligations to Stanton and then get tied up in similar financial obligations to Harper just a year later.

No player is worth $300-$400 million and even big payroll teams are starting to figure it out.

I'm sure Harper is regretting turning down the Nationals 300 million dollar offer now.

I wonder if they would even put it back on the table if he asked for it?

Yeah, there are players worth that much. Maybe not worth that much in terms of talent but certainly worth that much in revenue they can generate for the organization they play for. Did you not just read the guy who said the previous owner of the Marlins sold the team for a billion dollars more than he paid for it, just 15 years later? The television contracts are making team owners insane profits right now. The elite players deserve to get a piece of that windfall.

I don't know if they even can with the contacts they have. They already had large payrolls coming up and they've added big money since.

Good point. I wonder though since the financials I discussed were listed before Stanton was traded at the end of 2017 plus they dumped Ozuna and Yelich salaries. Maybe they would be interested in rebuilding with a young guy like Harper.

I don't think either player will get that much. But Mike Trout probably when his time comes. And Mookie Betts probably will. And there are emerging players who may not ever see $400 million but $200 million is an easy reach: Jose Rameriz, Francisco Lindor, Alex Bregman, Christian Yelich.

Yep, typical bullshit from the FO. Now the Harper/Machado deals are off or are they on/off/on? One way or another, this FO is going to eff this up bigtime AGAIN!!

I believe that by Wednesday, 3 PM, Harper will have finished celebrating his completion of interviews with greedy suitors and arguing with his wife about the best place in the USA to live and spend their riches fot the next ten years. Philly!

Problem is, I can’t put any money on it. :dhd:

Hey, Bryce, what’s a matta wit you, you talk with people in San Diego, city of losers; haven’t won a thing in 56 years, that 1963 AFC title. Admit it, you’d hate it there, talking to palm trees and chasing people from caravans off your lawn.

You gotta sign with Philly. City has cleaned up its act, Skinny Joey’s in the Florida big house so streets are safe, you could have your own penthouse in the new Comcast Tower, and your family could have their own cheesesteak deli on South Street, named Harper’s Bizarre. Let’s go, sign it, you moron. Time’s running out! :headbanger:

As a Reds fan, I want to see my beloved Reds wind up with Realmuto. However, if the Phillies were smart, they would pass on Harper and go after Machado. To me, Machado is a much better bet than Harper, and will be a better value for the position.

1) Sign Machado to play 3B or SS. ($30 million a year?) (Superstar)

2) Trade with the Reds to acquire Kemp for one season where he will come at a very reasonable cost so the Reds can make room for their #1 prospect Senzel. (Kemp $10 million for one season - all star last year)

3) Trade with the Marlins for Realmuto ($5.9 million this season). (top offensive catcher in baseball and potential MVP candidate in a smaller park)

This would upgrade the team at a much better clip than just adding Harper.

we get it, you want Kemp gone. you can post this a few more times, but I doubt Klentak is reading this thread.

as for trading for realmuto, easy to say in theory, but when they're asking for sixto? no thanks.

I don't mind keeping Kemp. It would be nice to make sure Senzel has a place to move to, but Kemp and Gennett will be gone next year and in the meantime Senzel can be a super utility getting 6 starts a week by playing 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, CF, and RF. I just saw it as more of a win for the Phillies instead of going after Harper. I think Harper is a cancer waiting to happen to whatever team gives him huge money. May not be at first, but over time, that cancer will eat away at a clubhouse and begin to tear it down.

I actually don't mind Philly, would hate to see that happen to you.

Sign a different OF'er, but I think Machado is a better buy for Philly. Still some decent OF'ers on the market I am sure. Melky Cabrera is available I think.
