He is one of 3 pitchers in the last 40 years to be a inducted as a starting pitcher without 300 wins or a Cy Young award.

The other 2 to achieve this dubious honor are Burt Blyleven and Jack Morris who were BOTH highly controversial.

Basically he's a new Bert Blyleven.

FTR, I actually like Mussina. He's a first ballot Hall of Very Good for me. But I don't see how he's a Hall of Famer.

FTR, I think both Martinez and Smith were questionable at best as well.

If you’re letting Rivera in, you can’t argue with Edgar imo.

Lol

I'm used to it.

Halladay was always a HOFer to me. Just think he might've went a year or two on the ballot if it weren't for his untimely death. Ron Santo waited 30 years. Dies and BOOM, hello Cooperstown.

Rivera wouldn't have been the first unanimous selection if votes weren't public either. He got it out of fear. Silly that a relief pitcher is the first guy ever if you ask me. Even if he's GOAT at his position.
Ya the one that cracks me up the most is "You're not a baseball fan". Yeah that's a surprise about Rivera. I'd like to know who didn't vote for Willie Mays, Henry Aaron or Babe Ruth.

I think Jeter has gained four pounds since HS.

All those strikeouts were au natural.

Bonus points for mentioning local anti-hero Chad Curtis. The King of HS trim.

I don't remember how that worked with the first few classes. Babe didn't get the most votes though. Cobb did.

Yeah, because he’s got about a thousand fewer innings and nearly one hundred fewer wins than Mussina...

Wins are going the way of the dinosaur when it comes to judging starting pitchers. 250 is going to be the new 300 within about 10 years.

That’s all well and good. Greinkie doesn’t even have 190.

Regardless, Greinke may or may not get in, but my point was that Mussina’s induction in no way makes him a shoo-in at this point.

Fair enough, but 12-13 wins a year for 5 more years isn't absurd to think about. And I think among his peers, he has as good of a chance as anyone.

Shoo-in is a little strong, but he's got at least a decent shot.

He's down the list imo among his contemporaries.

Could do it, but he has his work cut out for him.

Ok, explain it to me then. I laid out what he could do. He isn't going to be Mussina, because he isn't that much of a workhorse, but that's mostly generational.

I'm not smart, but I'm not an idiot.

If he wasn't a complete asshole, he probably is in already.

How do you figure? Mussina was universally reviled by opponents and his own teammates during his career and being a ginormous dooshbag didn't stop his "never dominant, asshole self" from getting in.
