Against the Yankees, give me Edgar. (Man did he just kill them)

Against everybody else, give me the Big Hurt.

I think I've told this story before but I remember getting good tickets to see the Ms and the Yankees and telling my now ex-wife that if she was going to watch any ABs she should watch Edgar's. Then the dude walked up, looked at five Andy Pettitte pitches that weren't quite what he wanted and then hit the sixth off the top of the wall in LF, making me look like I knew what I was talking about.

Thank fucking Christ that this stupid "unanimous" thing can finally die. The dipshits doing the voting have clung to this for way too long.

It should've died when Jackie Robinson was elected. But, according to the voters today, he didn't do anything important like Mariano did.

I think anyone who has ever played for the Spanks should get in unanimously. I mean, look at how often they were on tv. They MUST have been the greatest players ever to get on tv that much.

Right?

And had the pleasure of pitching in the steroid fueled AL East his entire career......That has to be a factor as well.....

Agreed, it was pretty tough facing the roided up Yanks in the 90s.

Dumb logic is dumb.

The dopes who maintained that somehow "unanimous" was some sort of meaningful distinction fail to recognize that part of the reason there weren't unanimous HOFers in the early going were because there were so damn many HOFers on the ballot. Same thing with "first ballot" stupidity. There were like 40 eventual inductees to the Hall on the first ballot. Get a sense of history and move on.

Fuck you Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Sandy Koufax, Walter Johnson, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Willie May, Hank Aaron, Rickey Henderson, and others...

You dont deserve the same honor as a guy with a single season career high WAR of 4.3

He is the real deal first guy to legitimately earn that 100%.

makes sense to me.

Omar Vizquel received 43% of votes.
Andruw Jones received 7.5% of votes.

Andruw Jones was one of the best defensive center fielders of all time.

Vizquel was one of the best defensive shortstops of all time.

Andruw Jones was much more dominant of a hitter though, is Vizquel getting so many more votes because of longevity or something else I’m missing?

I believe he should be a HOFer, but I am not certain he belongs in the inner circle of HOFers, let along have that kind of honor/distinction.

Relievers are overrated, but it's probably not the best idea to compare WAR for relievers versus position players/starting pitchers. 56.3 WAR is very remarkable for a guy who pitched ~70 innings per season.

Vizquel might be the most overrated player of all-time. He really isn't that similar to Ozzie either. He was a better fielder, baserunner and hitter (relative to his era) than Omar. I think Vizquel getting in would be a travesty.
