Would anyone outside of Edmonton blame McDavid for requesting a trade?

I don't think he'd request one but if Chia does get fired ( ) this spring could I see the new guy coming in and just gutting absolutely everything? Sure.

Colorado trading Edmonton Ottawa's first plus their own and other stuff for McDavid? RNH for a first +? Draisaitl? If you're a new GM given carte blanche you could do a lot worse than starting with 5 first round picks in your first draft (and likely more in the future for those guys) and TBH can anyone really throw out a better strategy for the Oilers right now than to totally gut this nightmare?

I can't find it so I may never have posted this (I meant to), but here goes:

I ended up having pints in a Calgary pub with some guys who are affiliated with Hockey Canada. One of the guys also had some ties to people in the Oilers management group. From time to time they ask him to help a player out if they happen to be in the same town at the same time. He's since gotten to know McD through these avenues.

He told me, for what it's worth, that Connor loves Edmonton and his teammates but has some frustration with the way the organization does some things. The example he cited to me was that on numerous occasions Connor volunteered (or was asked) to do charity/PR/community outings for the Oilers. When he shows up they haven't sent anyone from the Oilers to help him out with any of the logistics. Seems kinda Melnyk-esque to me.

I think you have explore shipping out Draisaitl for a package of players.

Draisaitl to the Blues for Kyrou, Schenn and Vincent Dunn.

Then you use some of that cap space to sign and Erik Karlsson or Alex Pietrangelo, I guess. Run with RNH or Schenn as your #2 C.

I don't think that would be a quick fix but it'd help if you could do it.
