Figured it deserved its own thread since its now official. For those that might not be following, its a new wrestling promotion that's being started by Tony Khan (son of the Jaguars owner) and the Young Bucks/Cody Rhodes. They've hinted at it since the Bucks/Cody's one off PPV "All In" last year. Inititally some rumors came out that Khan was going to back them and then it looked more real when the trademarks were discovered in November.

Details are slowly coming in but as of now they are going to run a PPV in a few months, Double or Nothing, likely in Las Vegas around Memorial Day. The promotion has already signed some of its roster but no one has officially been announced (though you can easily guess Cody, the Bucks, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky).

They also reportedly have "numerous" offers for a TV deal but have yet to announce one. The success of the All In ppv opened up a lot of networks eyes' and they have been in talks ever since.

So needless to say, this is the biggest news in pro wrestling in quite some time whether AEW succeeds or fails. It's the first time in a long time a promotion has had some series financial backing (ROH has Sinclair sure but Sinclair barely invests any money into it).

Here's the Being The Elite video where they made it official, logos are around the 7 minute mark if you want to skip

Best and biggest wrestling news in years. I can't wait to get the specifics on the TV deal.

The most exciting aspect for me as fan is underutilized talent having a new option for a big contract and major TV exposure if they leave the WWE.

Of all the names that have been linked to AEW so far, Jim Ross might be the most important one other than the Khan family. He gives the whole thing gravitas and legitimacy. He was running the talent department at the WWF/WWE with Vince McMahon when they signed the Rock, Lesnar, Cena. It's huge if he's there in a front office role and I don't think it was cheap.

I don't that'll make them sweat. Now if they got some magenta or neon competition, then they'd be worried

I hope that they do a video of Kenny at Marty's New Years Day Party that they've been teasing.
As for All Elite Wrestling, I wonder if WGN will pick it up since that's the channel that the pre-show was on for All In. Also wonder if Jericho will be involved in some fashion. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Flip Gordon go there at some point, along with guys that worked All In like Joey Ryan and Joey Janella (when they are able to come back). And would also assume that Marty Scurll will be there when his contract expires for ROH and New Japan.
Another thing I wonder about is if they'll keep a good relationship with NJPW. I figure that they're not going to get any help from ROH anymore since they'll be seen as a legit threat.
I guess a lot of these questions will be answered in due time. It's definitely a great time to be a wrestler with so many options on the table right now other than WWE.

Flip signed a 2 year deal with ROH over the summer so it'll be awhile if he shows up unless AEW has some kind of working agreement with ROH. That's one of the big things I'm most curious about; working relationships with other promotions. Like if I'm NJPW or ROH, I wouldn't do it. You're helping out your competition that has the financial backing to put you under down the road. And I'd be very worried if you're a fan of Impact. Between AEW's potential and Impact's financial situation, they could finally hit the end of the road this year.

I just don’t see there being enough talent out there to make this promotion worthwhile. Yeah you have the elite and maybe a few other names but if they want a major TV deal and everything they’re gonna need a roster of at least 20-25 people and I don’t see that manypeople out there that they can get.

There's plenty of ex-WWE talent out there that fans might want to see, and it seems that a number of people from TNA, ROH, NJPW aren't exclusive to those promotions and might be used sporadically.

I wouldn't be surprised to see people like Neville, Emma, Justin Gabriel, Hurricane Helms, Kaitlyn and maybe even the likes of Y2J and Bully Ray join.

I love this move for the same reason as @Mistaken4193 . It will provide some competition for WWE.

TBS and TNT are part of the Major Outlets looking to get the program.

Also read that many of the All In talent have been contacted about Signing with AEW.

I think it’d be easier to have a working relationship with New Japan than it would be ROH. Maybe they can work with Impact some perhaps or buy them outright so they can have a bigger selection of wrestlers to choose from. The thing that makes me wonder about New Japan is since they’re doing the co branded show at MSG Wrestlemania weekend with ROH, would they risk that relationship.

FWIW, the 4 that I bolded are working with ROH right now.

That's true. But at the same time, AEW being successful really dampers NJPW's US expansion plans. Their end goal it seemed like was to ultimately have a US based satellite promotion. The Elite crew was obviously gonna be a big factor in that. Would you still partner up with a group that significantly undercut your expansion plans? Maybe they decide to scrap the expansion anyway? I can see pros and cons for these existing promotions. It's not an easy decision.

First non-Elite member AEW signing: Dr. Britt Baker

Talented up and coming female wrestler. Wrestled at All In and has done some ROH shows as well as the Mae Young Classic for WWE. Also, she's Adam Cole's girlfriend.

If AEW ends up with a highly promoted show on a major cable network I think New Japan would be crazy to turn down an equitable agreement with them. If New Japan wants a bigger presence in the US that would be the best exposure for their product outside of working with the WWE.

I agree it would be nearly impossible to put on a weekly show now but I'm guessing this is starting much later in the year and they have a gameplan on whose contracts expire and who will be available.

I don't think they're exclusive to ROH, since Bully Ray, Emma, Helms all had matches for other promotions in recent months. Helms had a match 2 weeks ago for OVW, and Bully Ray had a match in October for HOG (Queens, NY promotion).

Will definitely be watching this promotion. The WWE is doing what they are doing because there is no real competition out there to motivate them to step up their game. No real competition...yet!

ROH "exclusive" varies though. They allow their talent to work small promotions but they aren't allowed to work with larger indys or promotions you'd view as their peers unless they have a working agreement (like with New Japan).

Good to know...I can't see most of them with long term ROH contracts (maybe year to year deals), so AEW could certainly throw money at them when their contracts are up.
