Fresno St last year could have gone undefeated and made the playoffs. They played a schedule tough enough to do so.

But they didn't go undefeated. They lost to Alabama, Washington(OOC) and beat Boise St in the regular season, but lost to them in the conference championship game.

There are G5 teams that play the tougher schedules and somehow they manage to schedule them(they take the games offered to them, odd), but for some reason whenever a team goes undefeated these types of schedules are claimed impossible.
Had they gone 12-1 they would be in the conversation for the playoffs. They go 13-0 they are in, in my opinion. Big ups to Fresno State for scheduling tough.

Maybe I should remind people that Florida State went 13-0 in 2014, was the only FBS team that was undefeated and were only a 3 seed in the playoffs. They played a much more difficult schedule than UCF and was nearly left out of the playoffs.

A close lose to Alabama perhaps could have kept them in the conversation. But Alabama blew them out.

Which is funny because that same team could have not scheduled Alabama and Washington, instead played some easy games like UCF has, gone undefeated with a 2nd win over Boise St and people would be talking about how that same team got screwed. The only difference being strength of schedule.

It amazes me that some people don't get this.

You have it totally wrong. Teams like Boise St. and UCF could play the toughest OOC schedule on the planet and they still wouldn't get in because they play in a weak conference.

Georgia on the other hand could play UMass. and Austin Pea and still be considered because they play in a tough conference. You and I both know that if they had beat Alabama they would have been in regardless of the fact that they played two cup cakes.

This discussion isn't about conference schedule. It's about out of conference schedule.

I'm not asking for equality I'm asking for equal opportunity.

What we have now is not equal opportunity because G5 schools have to play a tough out of conference schedule to even be considered, and p5 teams do not.

Unfortunately for you, there is no cure for stupid.

UCF got to #8 in the playoff rankings...despite playing UConn, FCS SC State, FAU and Pitt OOC...following that up with 8 AAC games. 12 games without a single ranked opponent. No P5 team would be forgiven for such a shit schedule. Look at Washington in 2016, they almost didn't get in by playing a shit OOC schedule...and they played several ranked conference opponents.

No, it is not UCF's fault that they play in a shitty conference, but if you play in a shitty conference you might want to have an OOC schedule that reflects that.

They had the opportunity for the last two years and squandered it by playing no one. Even one ranked opponent might have been enough. Can anyone honestly look at the P5 teams on their future schedule and say "man, that's a good program there, they're sure to be ranked when UCF plays them". Shit, 7 of the 9 P5 teams on their future schedule already fired their coach this year.

I agree with what you are saying going forward. I'm just talking about the last two years.

And their SoS would be higher than 120th. Why should UCF be allowed to have a pop Warner schedule and given a free ride into the playoffs. Just start letting every G5 school schedule 3 FCS schools and hope they go undefeated so that they go to the playoffs.

That's not what I'm saying. Everyone is saying that they would have made the playoff had they played a tougher OOC schedule. I don't think so.

That's why I said pick any P5 OOC schedule from 2018 and give it to UCF and they still would not have made the playoff.

Because P5’s do not need to schedule a bunch of tough OOC games because they have them in conference. UCF has plaid no tough games all year. Their big OOC game was Pitt, Penn State was chastised last season for playing them as their big OOC game while having Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Iowa on their schedule.

Forgive me if I am mixing you up with another poster on this subject. I agree with you 100%. That is what I was telling the other poster.

P5 schools do not have to play tough OOC schedules because they play in a tough conference. I agree with that statement 100%.

Had UCF had Fresno State’s OOC schedule last year, they are in and they will be a 2 or 3 seed.

With one loss or undefeated?
Undefeated definitely. One loss I don’t know. It depends on to who because we have a one loss P5 champ sitting out now and you aren’t going to convince me that UCF is more deserving with one loss with two wins over ranked teams.

Can we all just admit that UCF is always going to be the little kid in the corner jumping up and down to get noticed. Once everyone quits giving them the attention they need, CFB will go back to how it always was where G5 schools like UCF whored themselves out for money against P5 schools instead of trying to dictate the terms of the schedule.

100% agree, need to stop giving their delusional fans attention too. Supposedly they get off on being bashed in the threads they create. I guess looking foolish and stupid is their thing?

Texas opened up UCF’s new Stadium and got 2 home dates in return. UCF seems to believe giving 2 home dates with Florida —- just isn’t worth it. Tells me a lot what UCF thinks of the Gators

Sort of. UCF hosted Texas in 2007, and then played in Austin in 2009. That third game never got played, since UCF 'delayed' it. Meanwhile, ten years later....

Note that UCF broke contracts with Florida and West Virginia in this same way. There may be others.

If some people had their way, and I’m a G5 school, why the hell would I want to schedule any P5 schools? Just play 2 FCS and two UTEP and UNLV and ride my weak ass schedule to the playoffs every year. Undefeated is undefeated since it doesn’t matter who you play.

What would be the difference. They pussied up these two years just like they are pussying up the next 5 or 6.

Because they are still playing them and getting into the playoof. UCF doesn't have that luxury. They could play a super hard OOC schedule and people would still say their schedule isn't tough enough.

Bamas schedule with 4 fcs teams would still be tougher than ucfs.

How do you know they wouldn't have a shot? No G5 has gone undefeated with the rugged schedule I suggested.
