Well if they put that Turbo in the Outback that moves real close to the top of my list. I have looked at Audi too, MB and BMW. It boils down mostly to the seats and the ride, the Volvo seats are amazing and we travel a lot. I just love the looks of that Wagon and I am geek for wagons.

Tell me about it:

Aston Martin 4 door wagon. Want

Get a Flex and put the woodie kit on it. Too freakin' cool.
Nahh not my style, maybe I am not cool enough to pull that off, you gotta have a certain swag for that.

So side question quick ask and answer situation.

You amped for the Gator Bulldog game Sat? I am a ND fan living in Gville but I'll be pulling for your boy's this weekend. Best of luck.

You get used to it. I drove one of these for 3 years and got used to saying "yeah, fuck yeah it's woodgrained wallpaper on my Jeep and there's nothing you can do about it."

Yeah, trying not to think about it. Georgia will be as fired up as LSUx was after we beat their asses. Low expectations are key for this one.

Now that Subaru has introduced a 2.4 liter turbo on the Ascent on their global platform I am left wondering if that turbo set up will end up in what is not the 6CYL Outback, I would think that would be a solid move by Subaru.
I think a tuned version of that 2.4l DIT pretty much has to end up in the WRX STI unless they kill off the model.

That makes sense to, and as you stated it would need a complete retune. I am of the opinion they could take the engine out of the Ascent no changes and drop it in the 6 CYL Outback.

I wonder how well the WRX STI Sells?

I think the 2.4l DIT in the Outback makes a lot of sense as long as it isn't a big chore to cram it in there. I am assuming the WRX STI could take it without trouble as it presently has a 2.5l PFI turbo in it, but that could be a poor assumption...

IDK if the STI is a big seller, I knew a guy who bought one a few years ago and he claimed they came way way down on it. Seems like it is a good choice for a zippy car that is also usable in a New England winter and I know it does quite well in the Mt Washington climb race, but I see way more plain ol WRXs around here.

It would seem to me the same engine that is in the Ascent would fit into the current engine compartment of the 6 cyl outback with no issues?

The Ascent does look like a scaled up Outback more than anything else in the present Subaru lineup to me, I would guess the 2.4l DIT would fit in the latter but really don't know.
I guess if the Outback design is due for a refresh they could make any adjustments needed to the engine bay then. I had some minor interest in the 3.6l Outback, but the FXT had published 0-60 results roughly a second better and I felt very comfortable sitting in it, so I swung it that way when I decided against the Acura RDX.

Yeah 0 to 60 matters little to me, it's nowhere near as important as 60 to 0 or overall safety.

I was surprised to read that the 6 cylinder Outback took longer to stop and was slower through a figure 8 course than the 2.5l version....I mean, it's obviously going to be heavier, but they will usually beef up the brakes and suspension on "performance" versions.
I'm pretty sure the FXT did better than the 2.5l Forester in both of those tests. I suppose that the 2.0l DIT engine might not be much heavier than the 2.5l NA one, but I am not sure of the weights offhand.

Okay not sure why the figure eight course matters to anyone but if that is something that matters to you glad you did your research.

It's just a general agility test...I was not completely happy with the cornering ability of my FXT when it was stock and improved it a bit with a thicker rear antisway bar. I know it's a boring little SUV at heart and hardly a sports car, but I still try to have fun with it.
