None of these “bad boy” past greats deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Federer or Sampras.

the 70's were a different era, different rackets. tennis was also very popular in the 70's.

thankfully these days they have hawk eye technology, eliminating most controversy.

this was before challenges. Everybody jawed the umpires back then. Now it's just "challenge", see the replay, and go on with the match. Not that Connors wasn't the most over the top player of all time.

connor had the good sense to move on at some point. serena was crying about a warning she got 6 games earlier.

Good sense? Pffft. Chair umpire was the shittiest job in america before challenges. And Connors was the worst. McEnroe was actually entertaining with his rants but Connors was flat-out mean. The guy's a self-admitted jerk.

McEnroe had the funny hairdo and whined like a little girl. You'd think Connors was going to climb up the chair and beat the shit out of the guy. While they're both entertaining I'd have to say Connors was way more over the top than McEnroe was.

mcenores wimbledon tirades are legendary. mcenroe got kicked out the ao, because they had changed the rules on his behalf. nastase had them both beat.

Why doesn’t Del Po retire? He is gonna lose in straight sets! He’s moving like crap!! He can always blame it on the ‘tall-gu-back’ issue. I guess the organizers will be hurt and the audience will have to go home early. But Nadal did it! I mean a lot of us have other things to do than watch a boring drab one sided final!

The guy's making 7 figures for losing straight sets. If you like making 7 figures and can go 6-1 in a major then maybe it isn't time to retire.

He's playing just fine. Djokovic been at another level since July.

Retiring because you're going to lose in straight sets sounds like sore loser type of shit.

This match has been far from boring. I literally have no idea what you're talking about

Congrats to Djokovic. He is back and that is very bad news for the rest of the tour entering 2019.

An absolutely dominating summer as he won 3 of the 4 major titles.

Just because you're losing to the best player in the world at the moment means you should retire from the match?

You sound stupid. Delpo was playing fine. He was just playing a guy who has been at another level for the last 3 months

If you know anything about tennis, what the umpire just did is beyond ridiculous.

This is the equivalent of a team getting a free td in a superbowl because someone on a team made a comment to the ref.

Lol. Good analogy. I'd go even further and say it's a free TD AND a 2-point play.

As it should be. I've been a die hard tennis fan for about 16 years now....NEVER seen a game penalty. I've seen point penalties before but a game penalty.

Osaka probably would have won anyway but the game penalty was out of line.

I've seen the point penalty a few times, but rarely.

It happened at the Indian Wells Finals in 2016, between Serena and Azarenka. I was there. I took a pic of the scoreboard after that penalty.

The point penalty was for the racquet smash by Serena. That might have been the second racquet smash I guess.

Ok, this says there were 2 broken racquets in a row:

Victoria Azarenka Wins at Indian Wells, Becomes First Player to Beat Serena 4 Times in a Final

I don't think I've seen the game penalty before either, and I've been watching matches since the early 90s (not every major).

Has anyone won all 4? (Wimbledon; Rogers Cup; Cincinnati; US Open)?
