Hamels is earning $22.5MM in 2018 and is still owed about $7.98MM of that sum through season’s end, plus at least a $6MM buyout on his $20MM option for the 2019 season. The Cubs, however, don’t appear to be discussing the possibility of taking on all of that nearly $14MM commitment. Rather, Sherman further tweets that they’d pick up about $4MM of his deal and send secondary prospects to the Rangers in return.

I'll go on record and say that prospect return is more important to me than salary responsibility.

One thing that the article on mlbtraderumors points out is that Hamels is much better on the road this season. He has really only had one really bad start on the road and a couple of not so good ones this year. I didn't relaize it was that way until i went back and looked at his game log. They are absolutely right. Maybe it isn't so hard to conceive of a GM thinking he will pitch much better in another park.

Agreed. I don't care if we have to pay 90%.

I heard the Cubs deal for Hammels right now is for secondary prospects and the Cubs would pay the rest of this year's salary and the 6 million next year.

That is the opposite of what mlbtraderumors.com is reporting.

4:25pm: The Cubs are in “strong pursuit” of Hamels and would send lower-level prospects to Texas in the deal currently being discussed, tweets Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM. Fancred’s Jon Heyman tweets that there’s a “decent chance” of a deal coming together between the two sides.

Bad precedent to fire sale guys like Hamels for nothing. Let’s move him but at least don’t be a pushover.

Sets you up to be a bad trader next time. Always look a move ahead.

It is not as easy as we amateur GMS think.

I don't think trading Hamels sets any precedent whatsoever. Has nothing to do with being a pushover either. I have a little more faith in JD than this, first of all. Secondarily, we're not to get much, b/c he isn't worth much, unless we eat salary - which I'd be willing to do.

Fact of the matter is, he needs to go somewhere else. And soon.

That attitude of yours can eat a dick.

But now that you've clarified your point, if there's a trade partner for Hamels then a small return is better than no return.

I wanted to give you a like and a funny too for this one, but since I could only do one I chose like. So here's your funny now. :pound:

Blunt, but accurate.

I thought it then, and still think it now: the Hamels trade was the right idea at the time, and if not for things beyond the scope of Handsome Cole, would have worked out as intended. But he was always on the downslope, and now here we are. So it's time to say goodbye.

This hasn't been mentioned yet. At least I don't think so, so here's take.

I believe our organization, as whole, is fairly well thought of around baseball. Am I off base on this?

The reason I bring this up is in regards to moving Hamels. I believe the team wants to do right by the guy, at least as much as we can - without being viewed as 'pushovers' that is. It seems we've developed a pretty good player friendly atmosphere here, by taking care of our own, and Cole has done everything we've asked of him, plus he one helluva fine individual both on and off the diamond.

So that amuses you? Was going to let that go since looks like Eph was offended.

You guys are probably right. I need to chill a bit. Thanks
