Even if they manage to win the game, they have eliminated themselves from any hope at a national title. Considering how weak their schedule is, a one loss SEC team would now jump an undefeated Virginia Tech team. Nobody is going to take them seriously if they almost lose to East Carolina while having their toughest game be against Florida State. The only hope they have is for Florida State to beat Oklahoma, and i'd consider that a long shot. Unless this is a rare 2007-like season where there are not two zero or one loss title contenders, Virginia Tech is done.

Well I'm firmly of the opinion a W is better than an L...but struggling against ECU is pretty sad.

Just about every team has at least one scare a season. If they go undefeated and beat a highly ranked FSU they have as good a shot as anyone. Are you actually watching the game? Check the boxscore, not just the scoreboard.

If you both are undefeated, there is no way in hell Virginia Tech gets in over you. You guys have a tougher schedule and will beat teams by bigger margins. I think Boise would get in over any one loss team this year.

A win is always better than a loss.

There is a reason I keep saying only undefeateds from the PAC/SEC/Big10 or 12 get in over an undefeated BSU.

I think we have a decent shot over ACC or BE teams in getting the nod if it plays out right.

I've checked the box score. You guys have no passing offense at all against one of the worst secondaries in America. Your rushing attack is alright and your defense looks good. When your toughest opponent is Miami, you need to be exceptional to be given the benefit of the doubt. You guys haven't been acceptable today, yet alone exceptional.

As I said before, the only way you could change that stigma is by beating a Florida State team that beat Oklahoma. If FSU gets killed by Oklahoma, the larger nation will consider your conference a joke, and winning it won't be near enough to beat a one-loss SEC team.

after how things have gone today it looks like we'd get in over an ACC or Big Least team.

ACC teams didn't have a good week and the Big East has been plain awful.

If the Hokies slam through the rest of their schedule and ends up 13-0, and there is a 12-1 SEC vying for a spot as well, a lot will go into that decision. A close win on the road, where a first year quarterback is making his first start will not be that big of a deal. You say Miami is our best opponent, yet how canyon know that. You say that ECU is horrible, based on two games. It is not even two weeks into the season. Making assertions like this is insane.

An undefeated VT definitely shouldn't get in over an undefeated Boise.

What if Boise pulls out a 3 point win against a bad team. What if Georgia finishes 5-7 and TCU goes 7-5. What is GT goes 10-2 and FSU goes 12-1. I mean it is way too early to make assertions based on 1 3/4 weeks of football.

Things will work themselves out.

That's not how it works at all. If VT is undefeated along with two other schools from different conferences, say big ten and sec, then yes VT is out.

But VT will go for the NC if they are one of two undefeateds at the end of the year from a major conference. A one loss SEC team or any 1-loss AQ team for that matter, would not jump them.

as others have stated, check the box score, this wasn't an example of a bad team, t his is an example of a good team that played horrible football.

Well, I guess there is no point in playing the remainder of the season. Why don't you go ahead and list your two best teams and they can play for the title now and get it over with.
