Was looking at the roster and only 5 position players on the active roster (including the DL) were born in the United States, out of 16 (and 2 of those were in Vegas and one in Hawaii)

Hitzges just gave an amazing stat. Since the 2006 draft, and considering the top 10 picks in each one, we've got Gallo to show for it; maybe IKF. That's 112 picks and we've got one player for sure, and he's struggling. And very very few of the former prospects we've traded have made a scratch anywhere else either.

I think these two items go together. We used to be able to make up for bad drafting with a strong presence in Latin America, but MLB has made that difficult to do now. There are limits to what we can do in Latin America now.

Overall, we have done a sorry job in the draft. I think the draft philosophy of drafting for toolsy guys with a high upside, but with a lot of risk needs to change. I think we draft too many high school pitchers as well.

He took the easy, although it may be correct, way out in saying the organization as a whole has failed, and failed miserably. His point was, sometimes it's who you draft, sometimes it's the system, and sometimes it's the development within the system (coaching).

I think the baseball draft may be the most difficult to hit on of the 3 major sports (baseball, football and basketball). Many are high school prospects, injuries, and the fact it takes a while for a player to make it to the bigs affects that. There is so much competition going from A ball to MLB and which leaves more chances for injury. I think it is why you see many late round picks make it because they may feel they have to work harder to get there. Plus you just do not know what is in the heart of a player. Some top draft picks may feel they will have it easy to the bigs.

Drafting HS pitchers trending down and while drafting College pitchers trending up from what I read.

Once upon a time Norm was pretty on the pulse of baseball. Now not so much IMO. Remember Galloway turning sour.

As said quite a bit....pitcher development needs to improve. On the flip side. Players out of that old hickory bunch have done well and book still not out.

No disrespect but liars figure and figures lie. Not trying to nail Norm really just bringing alternative prospective

That is what I don't like about our local baseball coverage. The same guys who will take Jerry Jones to the woodshed(deservedly so) as the Cowboys GM will not lay blame at the feet of the Rangers GM. The same is true about the Head Coach/Manager of the two teams.

A lot of players add teams to their no trade list so they can ask for more money if they go there rather than disliking an area. They especially do this with the big market teams

I think it means the top 10 picks by each team, so if a team has 1 pick per round it would take them to round 10

So Trout was the Angels' #2 pick that year (behind Richards) out of their top 10 picks

They actually had 6 picks in the first 2 round that year due to Free Agent losses (Mark Texiera, Jon Garland, Francisco Rodriguez)

The first 2 rounds netted them Randall Grichuck, Mike Trout, Tyler Skaggs, Garrett Richards, Patrick Corbin (and Tyler Kehrer) that year

So that would've been 6 of their top 10 picks
