I think we basically agree. I just think experience matters more.

HCA means a lot to a young team like the Sixers. But the problem is, to an experienced team, it doesn't mean as much.

Talent wise, I believe the Thunder teams I mentioned were as or more talented than the teams they lost to. But their inexperience got them.

That first Thunder team lost a pretty tight match against the eventual champs. I don't think anyone thinks this Heat team is a title contender.

Yeah, that Heat Team was uber talented up top.

They still got beat.

You have a point.

On paper, the Thunder got smoked...didn't they only win 1 game?

But, most games were highly contested.

EN is an egregious homer though. So he doesn't count.
Yeah, I wouldn't insult you by putting you in that category.

Personally, I like his trash talk.

As long as he shows up to take his lumps if they lose, troll away.

You do realize how much better Miami are at defense than Cleveland right?

Miami is 7th in DEF EFF
Cleveland is 29th.
Yeah, I said they're great covering the 3 point line.
Where's the sixer's D rank?

Lol, no they aren't, But that doesn't change the difference in experience.

The point was that it wasn't talent that lost that series for them, it was their inexperience.

Well a lack of experience and also playing against a really good team.

OKC was a 50 win 8 seed that year. Had they won one more game they would have faced the Suns. I'd argue that their chances would have been VASTLY better playing the Suns.

Just to reiterate my point, the Sixers definitely could lose this series. No question. But I would qualify the Thunder as a comparison insofar as they were an 8 seed playing the team that eventually won a title. The Sixers are a 3 seed. I'm not sure if there are any great examples of super young teams that wound up being 3 seeds.

Has anyone heard a firm timetable for Embiid? Him being out for game 1 makes me think it possible he does not return at all, at least for round 1.

The reason I ask, I teach a girl who sustained the exact same injury getting hit in the eye by a softball. Her doctors said zero contact for her for 3 months. Any type of subsequent shot to the face could cause a brain bleed and could have serious long term repercussions or even be fatal.

I keep hearing vague reports on Embiid's status, but a fractured orbital is extremely serious. Depending on the amount of internal damage, the idea of his impending return might be a decoy.

This post is exhibit A of why people with questionable eyesight shouldn't read small print on a phone.

Swear to god I thought it said chew cock.

That would be a good game plan for Miami. Don't think Simmons would respond too well to that.

Any reports if he is practicing(Phillly fans)?
I agree with you.
If he can't play today, what's changing in the next 48 hours?

I do think if they thought there was no shot of him returning for Round 1, then they would just say so.

The fact that Embiid is posing on Twitter with masks and the team waits until the day before to announce he isn't playing tells me they at least think he MIGHT be able to play at some point.

Yeah, I can't think of any examples of a team this young being a 3 seed. It's interesting because the East is pretty bad and I'm sure that has a lot to do with the Sixers having such a high seed.

Makes it kind of hard to handicap because, on pure talent, they may be the best team in the East. But they're just so stinkin' young and have no real idea how different things are in the playoffs.

As I said in my original post on here, I'm picking the Heat, but I have no real reason to give as to why and I'm probably going to be wrong. lol

I am not sure the East is that bad. I think the bottom 6 out West and all 8 in the East are comparable enough that any of those series come down to matchups.

What is definitely true is I don't think there have ever been this many blatantly terrible teams in the NBA before. Therefor all the above average teams end up with inflated records.

That's kind of what I was getting at. You stated it better than I did. On a sports talk show that I listen to out here, they were breaking down the winning streak that the Sixers went on at the end of the season.

While it was an impressive streak, if memory serves, they only played something like 2 or maybe 3 playoff teams during that stretch.

I agree with you. Don't think we see him until game 6 or 7 at earliest. The team responded really will to the style of basketball Brett Brown called without Embiid in there.

The fresher Embiid is the deeper a run we can make. He was tired before getting hurt.
