Does the package deal aspect hurt them in voting though? What I mean by that is, when you've got two individual players who are probably each borderline, does the fact that voters might be hard-pressed to choose one over the other - and also hesitant to devote two of the limited slots available each year - make them less likely to get votes?
that's the biggest knock on their chances. gotta hold 2 slots.

pretty fun seeing some stories come out today

and this is pretty funny

I’m at the Canucks Restaurant at YVR and they got a great promo running for today. $22 for a bowl of peanuts and $33 for a bowl of pretzels. Not bad!

I would probably vote them in. And since you mentioned points, the following are all the eligible players NOT in the HHOF with more points than the twins:

Pierre Turgeon
Jeremy Roenick
Beernie Nicholls
Vinnie Damphousse ( for you @Comeds )
Rod Brind'Amour
Theo Fleury
Dave Taylor
Keith Tkachuk
Ray Whitney
Pat Verbeek

Sedins ahead of all of them.

I think they get in because in addition to performing well at the top level for a long time, it's a good story to be told. I feel like it's just as important to tell the important stories in addition to honoring performance. They stayed together, stayed loyal to a franchise and that is so rare. And they did it all with unbelievable class.

And I like Neeley being in because of his story. First real power forward in the game and got it all stolen away from him by a cheap shotting bastard.

I dont recall Marty Brodeur being drafted in 1999

/Ohhhhhhhh, Ryan Miller. Touché, I was fixating on skaters

*gasp*

You need to say five Hail Ryan's

They had some good careers and are Hall of Famers. The NHL is less today because of the 2 of them retiring.

The Sedins were very good players but I think I would take a lot of the players in your list in their prime over either of them, in some cases both of them. This is a team that had Bure, Naslund and Linden but have Snepsts in their ring of honor:L. Wonder if the Sedins will make the cut?

just for clarification, they have a ring of hono(u)r, which is step below jersey raising.
Sedins will have their numbers retired.

but I do agree this team has gone a little overboard on jersey retirements.
considering they've never won a cup, and have been awful for most of 48 years.
there is currently 10, 12, 16, 19 retired, and soon to be 22 and 33

only numbers I would have up there (retired) are Linden and the twins.
recognizing that Bure and Naslund were utterly amazing at their peaks. Still not worthy of retiring a number (Bure over Naslund though)
Smyl was the little engine that could. face of the club for a while but never reached 40 goals or 90 pts.
thank Jebus that they took down #7 in a hurry.

And about 300th on the assists per game stat. His numbers are fairly similar to Tim Kerr, and he ain't getting in. Oh, and Kerr is 10th in goals per game played.
kerr was a nice scorer for about 5 seasons

6, 25+ goal seasons in total.

neely had 8.

neely also did stuff other than score. kerr was basically a pussy. neely, well...he was a badass and he was seabass. he averaged about 150 PIM/yr while putting in 40-50 goals in his prime. he owned the front of the net.

kerr was about 60 PIM or so, in his prime years. also, his best years...say 25/26/27 he scored 170 goals. of those 170, 81 or 48% of his goals came on the PP.

neely 3 best, 24/25/28 he scored 156 goals. of those, he scored 63 goals...40%...on the PP.

neely was a better even strength scorer, far tougher, and was nearly impossible to move. he also had the softest hands i had seen for a guy with his game.

kerr was a nice PP scorer, and was always borderline to me....he just didnt have the "dont fuck with that guy" factor.

theres a reason why cams in and kerr needs a ticket.

I'm borderline on Alfredsson getting in and I think Alfredsson had a better career than either Sedin.

To their benefit, it's not like a lot of excellent, top-tier players have retired in the last few years. There will probably be a lull for a while where they'll probably get in a lot easier than I'm expecting.

I don't disagree. Stats alone never tell the whole story, and if stats are the story, the player generally doesn't make the cut.

HOF discussions are always great, no matter the sport.

i saw both play (I'm 42)

obviously, i saw more neely than kerr. kerr was a guy who scored goals. neely was a hockey player.

Some said the same thing about Phil Esposito (I am 56) :D

I am guessing you don't want JVR for next season? He is UFA. . .

Kudos to the Sedins on two great careers! Classy and talented players on the ice and the two have done a ton of charity work off the ice. A week for the Canucks' fans to celebrate their legacy.
