The wife is wanting a new (used) SUV. She is looking at a 2013 Land Rover LR2 HSE. I have zero experience with Land Rovers. It's listed about $1500 under BB value, and has 47k miles. Anyone be any knowledge to share?

Anything to substantiate that opinion? I'm looking for information, not opinions.
A friend of mine has one of the larger mechanics shops out here in the valley and a lot of the BP (British Petroleum) execs and their family who live out this way tend to drive Land Rovers and they are a mechanics nightmare according to him. Better off with something like a Toyota 4Runner.

They are overpriced kaka. If you're not an electrician, you will wish you were about a week after you buy one.

I've owned a couple. Ford owned them for a couple years and fixed the electrical problems on those and Jaguars. Their reliability got better. Then BMW bought them and things got complicated again.

I had a Land Rover and it was ok. I only had one problem and it was the cruise control sticking where it grabbed the throttle cable...not a huge deal. It was very safe. My ex got rear ended by a semi and the semi was much more seriously damaged. I had a Range Rover for a couple years way back before BMW. It was fine...but overpriced and outdated. It was luxurious. But seriously, RR is like a top-end 4x4 Explorer plus $25k.

The new Velar looks cool up close...a lot around lately:

As a rule European cars tend to be finicky. As a mechanic friend told me once, the European car makers emphasize the experience of driving and tend to focus less on reliability

Land Rovers are also built to be more utilitarian where as the Range Rover is marketed as a premium luxury vehicle

I owned a Honda CRV which was mechanically good but it was noisy.

I have owned a 2010 Lincoln MKX for the past three years. Have not had one single problem with this car. It's got most of the bells and whistles, not all and they all work perfectly. Considering what you'd be paying for the Land Rover, I'd really suggest looking at a Lincoln SUV. This thing is horde when it needs to be in the snow and and is smooth as glass on the dry highway. She'll love driving a Lincoln.

I like the 4Runner too. I tried to steer her towards one of the Ford Explorer Sports. Right now she has the Land Rover at the top of her list. But, I know her. She's cheap as fuck when it comes to spending money, especially on herself. Once I get her on the car lot I'll be able to show her lower sticker prices and lower monthly payments for a newer vehicle.

The new Explorers look nice and even though I'm not a big GM fan, they have some nice looking SUV's imo.

See, I don't like the new explorers. They look like every other SUV out there. It's like every manufacturer got together and decided to make them all look alike. Even some of the Jeeps are generic.
I'd rather have have something you could pick out of a lineup.

Cheap as fuck...?

Even if the LR proves reliable, even basic maintenance is more expensive.
I too have been researching some Land Rover Range Rover Sports for the wife....Up keep is expensive.
Go with a Ford or Lincoln.

We have a 4 Runner. Great vehicle. Hard to go wrong with a Toyota.

Oh yeah, I remember now. There was a lot of talk about putting a BMW engine in the Land Rover Discovery to replace the ancient, shitty Buick engine that had been in it forever.

Some of the Tata shit is a real trip.
