They have scott Mac blue prints if they want to use his philosophy or theme we will see.. it's up to Doug William's
I would say he is doing exactly what any of us would do after six years in DC, three of which the front office showed zero commitment to him. I do find it odd that people fault Cousins for this, but many are applauding Smith for doing the exact same thing in basically saying he would only except a trade to a team that was willing to extend him.
This has nothing to do with what happened with Cousins in DC.
If this is in fact true, do you not think that wanting a 3-4 year contract (vs a 5-6 year contract) at 85-100% fully guaranteed, probably at $30million plus a year, is a little bit of a ask for him???
I understand he wants to set the bar high to start negotiations... but that to me does not scream “money isn’t everything”, “I want to go where I can win”, “I want a LONG TERM commitment. That screams that he wants have his cake and eat it to. That he wants to maximize his earning power so he can possibly get one more HUGE contract before his skills go to complete shit and/or he retires.
Look I know you are barely past the legal drinking age. But most folks that have had a BAD experience at their last company, go above and beyond to make sure they dont get stuck in the same situation at the next company. So it does have alot to do with how he was handled the last six years.
I agree he is trying to maximize his earning potential. But again, given the situation you or I would do the exact same thing. And yes how things went down in DC will have a bearing on how he deals with his next contract negotiation as well as the one after that if there is one.
I will also again point out.. you are dogging Cousins for doing EXACTLY what Smith just masterfully pulled off. Fuck winning, Im going where I can get a long term extension before my skill start to erode. So if they were not willing to give him a new contract, he wanted no parts of them. Because lets face it, he would likely be closer to winning in Denver than DC right now.
I’m 42 years old dude..had plenty of jobs, good and bad. Former military just like you, so I know what’s it’s like to be shit on a little bit.
I’m not hating on the guy for possibly trying to play the game to give him and his family everything he wants for the next 6-7 years. But that’s just not very realistic. He wants to make a crazy shitload of $$$ during that course of time while maintaining all of the leverage during almost that entirety of that time period as well. At the end or close to the end of a 3-4 year contract, he is playing this tag or pay shit tons game all over again with some other team. It is also gives him a possible out if he gets his wittle feelings hurt by the next GM. The other team has no out in this situation (assuming this report is true), he is really trying to go where no QB has ever gone before.
I’m with @gkekoa. No way I am even entertaining paying this guy that much money and committing to him if he isn’t willing to sign at least a 5 year deal. Dude might walk away from you after 3 years and 100 million later. Maybe that’s his plan? Make as much as he possibly can in 3-4 years and walk away from football?
Nope, it was because he was offered a contract in 2014-2015 that makes people responding to it shortsighted. Right or not some accepted the notion that he would sign it, while others figured that he would not sign, weigh his options and proceed accordingly. If we cannot admit that Kirk and his agent were smarter than Bruce Allen and whomever then it makes sense that Kirk might have signed the first contract similar in time as Bortles. Really good agents look and plan ahead. In this case, it was easy to see the options as Kirk's first contract was ending. One of those options was to wait, in fact, looking back, it was the only prudent option. Then all they had to do was let Kirk put something meaningful on his resume' and then exercise one of them.
Face getting cut/ traded
Accept the original offer
Get a better contract
Accept the tag
How else do you guys define "betting on himself?" That asked, I must admit that I hadn't thought of a lot of the details back then, but as I've said time and again, it was most likely instinct that had me convinced that Kirk wouldn't sign a LTD here, especially that one.
Here I see why KC would have signed.
After his rookie contract, he accumulated 2 million dollars in t was four years in the league.
When he was offered 12 mil a season, he would have accepted it because he didn’t have much put away and had proven nothing. When he was offered 16 mil, he still hadn’t concluded his rookie contract, he would have accepted it.
He bet on himself once he had a guaranteed 19 million dollar contract, his first franchise tag.
he would have signed it sty , it was killed by allen , you are totally missing the in initial offers which have been documented
Alex had a front row seat how a healthy Redskins team could be a contender. Any good NFL QB, of any age could see themselves winning with that team on the field in week 4 before the injuries mounted…it’s too bad you can’t see that.
Look.. its cool you have faith in Bruce and Dan.
But reality is, Smith chose the Redskins for one reason.... the Extension. He went after the money and the long term contract that no one else was going to give him.
And, you know that as fact right shark? I know you are a long time, die-hard Skins fan shark...it will be OK

Rumor as of now...We will see how this all shakes out.
But if true, this debunks a lot of things KC has said and is a bit of egg on his face.
I’ve said all along that given his age, KC is trying to maximize his career earnings at all costs. Stay tuned.
What does the Doom Crew have to say about this??? What are your thoughts if this is true? @gkekoa @skinsdad62 @Sharkinva @Skins2021
If the article is true. Its hard to look at this in any other way aside from Kirk trying to have his cake and eat it to.
