True, but I talk shit on other teams all the time on the general board.

fair enough. but should the chiefs do the unthinkable this season and make it to the big game, don't you dare come crawling back, you've abandoned them.

Never have understood the piling on of Bortles around here.

Like it's cool to think he blows or something.

Doesn't look to be a crippling contract. If he stinks up the joint and they can cut him while only paying him 25M they'd be OK.

If he reaches the 66M he must have played well.

They can cut him, but that's not the point though. Sure the contract isn't killer relatively speaking but its that they gave it to him for basically half a season of not shitting the bed. They've got a great defense and good running game. SB windows can be short and there's is open right now. If he shits the bed again, you just wasted a potential SB season. That could be your only shot. It's compounded by the fact that there's more QBs available this year than normal so you're gonna look real stupid cutting him and trying to find lesser QBs than what's available right now.

Maybe it does work out though. Maybe Bortles plays the safe game manager QB that gives them just enough to win like we saw in the last couple of months of the season. But I kinda lean towards the other 90% of his career when he shit the bed and people were wondering "Should we start Chad Henne?"

I have abandoned Clark Hunt, that much is true. So basically yeah, pretty much.

I'm thinking they'll draft a QB have Bortles start a couple of seasons and hand the ball over to the new guy. If the new guy is ready for the 2019 Bortles is releasable. Better than giving a 34 year od 70 guaranteed.

The jaguars could have signed Bortles for ten dollars for the next four years and people on places like this would still have said it was dumb just because it was Bortles.

Whatever you think of Bortles the Jags were a serious threat last year and even though they were never really going to beat the Pats, they established a foundation for success. This contract keeps Bortles around but does not cripple them or prevent them from looking in other directions should he limit the team's ceiling in the long run.

A bunch of much dumber things have been done even just so far this offseason and even though the Chiefs are a bright enough team that they deserve the benefit of the doubt, the Marcus Peters trade is very likely one of those things.

I don't see this as a possible tragic move like the Rams bring in a hot head that could be a locker room cancer !

26.5 mil guaranteed over 3 years makes him one of the lowest paid starting QB's in the NFL not still on their rookie deal. Right around where he belongs, IMO.

I'm sure the deal is front-loaded into the first year or two.

Well, I would say you can give him nothing and be better off. Giving him any money at all doesn't speak well of the organization given the level of play he is putting out there. Any kind of raise, is kind of a joke.

Makes sense to me. Jags can't afford a FA like Cousins and they are drafting near the bottom of the draft, so might not be able to draft a QB they like. Looks like the Jags can be free of Bortles in 2019 if they wish and they aren't paying him much and have some continuity on offense while they try to find a franchise QB.

I thought he wound up having a pretty solid season. Especially playing well in two very big post-season games.

I don't mind an extension with an option out after one year. By the time they draft, all of the top QB prospects are long gone. Another year with Bortles is fine.

Eh, I still see the same Tebow-esque mechanics with the windup, the accuracy is still horrific even on layups such as screens, and the decisionmaking ability on any throw where that actually matters is deeply questionable as far as I can tell. The Jags kneeled to run out the first half because they couldn't trust Bortles, yet they want to give him money? Why not just bring in a rookie like Lamar Jackson? He may have had better numbers, but numbers just represent outputs, not inputs at a certain point. The Jags have nobody to blame but themselves for not winning the SB this year.

We've seen people make this mistake with Bortles at least once with the 30+ TD season. It's still the same pile of junk.

I underestimate stupidity, this is true!
There's no justifying this. If supply is an excuse, you don't follow the herd and give money to lemmings like Flynn, Glennon, and Bortles. It's just a waste of resources no matter how you cut it and blatant apologia for stupid decisions. A few million here and there add up quickly when trying to push for a SB. Bortles is arguably not a top 32 QB.

Jags are drafting 29th, do you think Jackson would still be available? If he is perhaps they draft him. However as the Broncos have shown drafting a QB that isn’t ready for the big league can be a waste of time and leave you at a dead end.
