I agree, outside of Babe Ruth I guess, any guy (Boggs and Clemens) that played in NY and Boston, need to be eliminated from both Mount Rushmores

Poor Jacoby Ellsbury! He isn't gonna like this at al-- oh wait...nevermind

Watch: Dan Le Batard grills MLB commissioner Rob Manfred

this team lost like $70 million last year what the hell did they think the new owners were going to do? loria signed deals he knew he would never have to pay out in effort to inflate the product and get more value for a sale.

Pretty much....Loria would back-end many of the big contracts (ie - Reyes, Delgado, Buehrle) so he could pay bargain prices in year 1 and trade them when

And this isn't the first time that the Marlins have had a firesale, which makes you wonder if much of the bashing is simply because it's Jeter sailing the ship.

I get that the contract is insane, especially for a low budget team like the Marlins, but my issue is with Mr Yankee showing up in south Florida and basically giving Stanton to his old team.

You do realize Jeter was pretty much out of options, no?

Jeter wanted to deal Stanton to both SF and StL (who submitted offers) but Stanton declined....how is that Jeter's fault that Stanton wanted to go to only to the Dodgers and Yankees, meaning that those two teams had all the leverage (if they didn't give an offer, the likelihood of Stanton being stuck with Stanton's contract increases significantly).

And you're acting like this is unprecedented that the Marlins would have a firesale - where were your complaints when they traded pretty much the entire '97 World Series team for a bag a peanuts, or when they traded Cabrera?

Exactly

I fucking hate Jeter, but he had to trade Stanton.

This is all on Loria. Of course, Stanton was a dumbass for thinking Loria would actually try to put a team around him. Smart people knew he wouldnt. He would also have been a dumbass for turning down $300M.

there were plenty of complaints after each firesale believe me.....only thing this time was they didnt win a ws before doing it to soften the blow

Knowing Stanton had a no-trade, it might have been a good idea for Jeter to get a list of teams he would approve a trade to before getting offers first. He fucked this up, but it had to be done

loria killed this team long ago when he went south into miami. the foreigners down there dont love baseball as much as they thought they would. wouldve been interesting to see what that 75 win team could have done with some pitching.....

Sure, money not spent wisely....When your resources are limited, and you spend big on Wei Yen Chen, youre in trouble when that doesnt work out

The shame of it all, the Jose Fernandez tragedy may have set this all off...Building around a really good core in that lineup, and one of the best pitchers in baseball, could have been so much easier

Do Marlins fans realize that trading Stanton gave them over $260 million dollars in relief right? Are there even any Marlins fans on here? lol

how many times does this sorry ass franchise have to be sold before people realize it wont work down there?

4 ownership groups in 24 years?

That's embarrassing.

what's more embarrassing is that they've won more WS titles than a bunch of other franchises that actually give a shit. and yet, no one cares about the Marlins.
