So far I believe we are a good team trying to be a very good team. We can beat the teams we should beat but we don’t dominate them . We can compete with and beat equal teams but the upper echelon teams consistently beat us. I think depth and another good draft could push us to the next level .

Thoughts?

The margin between 'good' and 'bad' teams is less than most would have you believe. Health and a good dose of luck seem to matter more these days than ever.

Absolutely. This season more than ever there don't appear to be clear cut SB teams in either conference, and health is a huge factor. This is the area where I am most concerned for the Redskins especially on defense.

I think that if nothing else the Redskins are trending in the rt direction & at least have hopes of making the playoffs. People need to be patient. This is a young team at many positions & they will make mistakes as they learn & come together. Next Monday Night will be a great test.

I agree that they have so far played as a good team, upper half of the league. But depth at some key positions are hurting us. IF healthy, we have the potential to upset some very good teams. But we can also lay an egg and lose to teams we should beat. Our next game against the Eagles will be a very good litmus test. They ruled us in the first game. Have we improved and can we overcome the Monday night jinx? I'm not sold just yet.

We have got to get a running game that is, at least, mediocre. When KC is one of the leading rushers every week, that is not a good sign. If we don't figure out how to keep the Eagles defense honest with a competent running attack, they will be loading the box and bringing 5-7 everytime we are expected to pass. Play action means nothing if they don't respect the run. Also, We have to somehow get our WRs more involved in the game. I have no idea what his happening to our wideouts, but the ball just does't seem to be going to them.

I will add this. It is very promising that we have some young talent that is stepping up and making plays, especially on defense. Guys like Ionnidis, Smith, Fuller, Dunbar, Montae, and others. That is how you build a team with continued success. SO the future looks to be good if we can keep this trend.

This is a team that is still developing. I like the way the offense is transitioning. I think Gruden and Cousin's are working with guys in new roles whether they are new guys or have been here.

The D is much better. We played a significant part of the game in the 2nd half yesterday with backup corners. One of the corners and the free safety are rookies. You have to like that.

The first Philly game was close until late and they had a chance. Dox had a potential game winning score in his hands against KC. I am pretty happy to this point.

We are a mediocre team in a mediocre league and that's a good thing. I don't know if any of you remember this but there has been a league wide effort to create "Parity" for some time now. Rule changes, video replay, additional rule changes for protection against head injuries, skirting QB's, compensation relating to Free agency, trading valuations, compensatory picks et. al have all played a role in achieving this parity. The days of dominating defenses are long gone, replaced by defenses that rely more upon offensive mistakes than those that they themselves create.

We are fortunate to have a mediocre team, as I previously stated that's a good thing in today's NFL, given that alternative place from which this team worked to leave behind. SB level? who knows? there are a lot of things that changes the fortunes of a team in any given season. Unfortunately, that too is a two way street. Today's mediocre team will win a SB with the proper breaks, with the wrong ones that same team finishes with a very high draft pick in tow. The good thing........at least they have a chance.......Parity!!

I agree totally with your entire post. I highlighted this part of your reply since honestly I believe that this applies to almost any team in the NFL right now w/ very few exceptions (granted you would not consider a win by a top tier team an upset nor a cellar dweller losing "laying an egg"). We truly have reached the pt where any team can beat any other team on a given Sunday.

What better example than last nights Giants-Broncos game. I think most people thought that the Giants would not only lose but get blown out, and I am pretty sure that just about nobody thought they would blow out the Broncos.

Heck - look at the Steelers. One week they look awful & everyone is asking what is wrong with them & is it time to make changes. Fast forward to the is week where they are viewed as potential SB champs. Such is the NFL.

Relative to how you want to define great, probably....but as I relate them to historically great teams....mediocre.

Are the Patriots just that good, or have they just evolved into a team that can cheat and never get caught at it?? IM thinking Darth Hoody makes the CIA jealousy with his abilities.

If you would have stated this at the beginning of the season I would totally agree. Now I am not so sure. If the replay refs didn't suck there is a chance that the Jets pull it out yesterday & the Pats are at the bottom of the AFC-E.

They still have some tough games ahead & their divisionol games can no longer be viewed as automatic Ws. The injury to Rodgers & all of the recent sacks & nagging injuries also have to make you seriously consider whether Brady might actually be at risk for injury & no longer be this guy that everyone believes will be playing @ 45 yrs old.

Who knows - saying this they could roll into their next SB, but you certainly have to question them at the current time.

I don't think its luck as much as not hurting one's self. The SJ fumble and the Kelley wrong way run in the KC game. The errant pass to JC in the Philly game being examples. If SJ doesn't fumble, Kelley runs the play correctly and Kirk hits JC. We might be 5-1 or 6-0 right now.

I don't see luck, good or bad, as having anything to do with those plays. That's more on Redskins players failing to execute properly or not paying attention.

I do agree the margin between good and bad is as close as it ever been and that makes not having brain farts or missing open WRs as important as its ever been.

One thing that drives me crazy is the lack of preparedness going into game 1 and off the bye. That is a coaching problem and a trend.

I will give you the game one thing. I'M STILL pissed about week one 2016 as i got to watch that on a 70 foot screen at the start of my vacation... not a good way to start it out.

As for the bye week, I think the team was prepared for everything but the rash of injuries we had both before the bye, and during this weeks game. Add in a desperate niners team, and we did get a tad lucky winning yesterday. At some point Gruden will get them ready for week one I would hope. But I think having the Niners play us down to the wire is actually better for this team right now than blowing out a struggling team. Because I doubt any one is feeling themselves at the moment in Ashburn. And while I suspected we would shit the bed on this one, I think we come out ready to stomp a mud hole in the eagles next week... which we need.

What are your thoughts on the thinking that Gruden has considered the possibility that there are injuries that can be avoided in camp, and the preseason? This, some are saying, contributes to them being not as prepared as they would have been without this type of caution.

IM old school. YOu know this. I think training camp has gotten entirely too soft, and the lack of hitting is what is leading to all these in season injuries to begin with.
