I hate to disagree with you but:
You are looking at this like the other owners want to take away Goodell's power. They don't.
Goodell has divided the NFL owners and conquered. He get's another 5 years in the office by pitting Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones against the other owners.

I could be wrong but I think the reason Goodell is being re-upped is to get through this next CBA. Granted many others can do it, but you really don't want a newby representing you in CBA talks.

Ask yourself this -- if the fans and players didn't have Goodell to blame, then who would they blame? The commissioner is there to take the brunt of hostility from fans and players and shield the owners from it. Sure, he has too much power but he also gets all the blame, which is beautiful if you're a billionaire that doesn't want to make difficult decisions about controversial issues and possibly alienate your employees or your customers.

We agree on this.....

There are many reasons why he is being re-upped. Not the least of it was that he stood up to Kraft and Jones.....

Just beat the Giants and serve the suspension. I'm tired of all of it.

Henderson and the NFL took too long to give their ruling, had they made this call about 6 hours ago Elliott would have to rely on the Judge putting the suspension on hold. As of right now Zeke is suspended weeks 2 through 7, unless a Judge rules otherwise.

The appeal took too long. The NFL said he'd play week one after the appeal went past a certain point in fairness for both teams to game plan. Otherwise the appeal could be ruled Sunday morning and both teams would have to plan on him playing. All it does is push it back, it doesn't lessen the punishment. So now instead of missing the Giants game he misses the Chiefs.

I'm really surprised by the time of the decision to uphold the suspension. I don't think the extra 7 hours he took changed his mind one way or another. I also wonder if the Union filing a lawsuit played in the decision not to reduce it. Kind of, "Oh Yeah? Well show you".

Nothing the league does should shock anyone? We all know they just do whatever the hell they want, whenever the hell they want
