Well maybe someone should tell Sherman that perhaps NFL players aren't underpaid, it's just that NBA and MLB players are overpaid.

Not only that but NFL players play a 16 game season compared to 80+ for baskeball and 160+ in baseball. On a per game basis NFL players are actually getting paid a ton of money compared to other sports.

Average MLB salary is $4M. Divided by 162 games = $24,691.00 per game.
Average NBA salary is $6M. Divided by 82 games = $73,170.00 per game.
Average NFL salary is $2M. Divided by 16 games = $125,000 per game.

The only argument for more money is the physical abuse Football players take compared to other sports. I think that would be a legitimate point for NFL players to make, although that is also dependent on what position you play too. Some positions take way more punishment than others.

If my memory is correct, I seem to think that the NFL Network has said many times that JJ and Dan Rooney brokered the salary cap and revenue sharing deals and JJ agreeing brought the other deep pocket owners on board for both.
Not sure about the cap but Jerry made the other owners huge dollars brokering the television contracts

The cap ain't going anywhere. The Owners know it, the fans know it, and the players should know it.

<shrug> I think the cap is a GOOD thing. But human nature is what it is. Jerry calls it communism, and in today's climate, who knows? Certainly there's a guy in Washington DC who will follow along.

The cap only exists because of anti-trust exemptions, and AGAIN, given the current political climate, who the fuck knows?

But let me repeat, I'm a fan of the cap.

it won't work and Sherman is speaking for maybe 10% of the players.
Jerry remains 1 of 32 and was elected into the HOF cause he made the other owners huge amounts of $$$

Jerry's record on the cap is there for you to read.

You're arguing that only 10% of NFL players would want an uncapped NFL?

What are you basing that on?

The NFLPA sued the NFL over anti-trust protection as recently as 2012.

No...I'm stating that Sherman is speaking for 10% of the players while the other 90% will cross the line and go to work....which is why a strike won't work

That's certainly not how it played out the first time. Thus the whole replacement players deal.

So you're not basing your 90% number on anything but your own opinion?

Please enlighten us on where Jerry stands on the cap.

And again, I'm doing Devil's advocate here a bit, because I think the cap has been good for the NFL. And while a strike would likely be counter-productive for everybody, in the long run, the NFLPA does have a pretty big warchest to play with.

correct....it's an opinion board and what most do here.

Let me be clear on what I think.
90%, 80%, hell even 70% if YOU prefer...Sherman ain't speaking for the majority and a strike will not work

Right now chf is frantically searching google looking for any shred of evidence Jerry wants to end the cap.

He's said plenty about it. He's slightly disguised his opinion more recently by saying that while no cap would be great for the Cowboys, it'd be bad for the league.

He's also said plenty about being pissed off about how the 'Boys have to share their revenue from merch and can't sign their own TV deals where they don't have to share TV revenue.

He saw the outrageous money that the Rangers were getting for JUST their local TV deal, and creamed his pants. The A-rod deal (hoo- boy would Jerry love to do something like that) was just a PORTION of the money FOX paid Tom Hicks.

Just so you know, I saw that one up close and personal. I lived in Dallas at the time, and worked for FOX. :) Good times.

Just wanted to be certain what you were saying, since you didn't really type it us as opinion. More like it was somehow an objective fact that 90% of players would cross.

AGAIN, nobody crossed for quite some time the first time around, and the NFLPA has had a LONG time to build up its war chest. We're not talking about the local inside workers union here, the NFLPA is pretty powerful.

and AGAIN, I'm pro cap. I think in the long term a strike would be counterproductive.

But you realize what a salary cap is, right? It's SOCIALISM by any other measure.

Jerry has always said the cap is good for the league thus he's never tried to end it, yet your brain has somehow placed Jerry has the owner who would support ending the cap.
Let's be honest you let team hate influence your statement. You can admit it, we all know anyway.

I don't think the cowboys share their revenue from merch, nor do they get a share from the other 31 teams merch.

NFL Revenue Sharing: How it works

The big 3 of sharing is TV Contracts, gate sales, and general merchandise sales.

that article is awesome since it quotes guess whom?

Jerry’s beef: I’ve invested almost $1 billion of my money plus another $900 million in tax payer money in my state of the art monument to myself, and I have to share 40% of my gate revenue with the Jaguars, Bengals, and Vikings? So what if I have to play those teams every 4 years, it’s my money and I should keep it.

The blog also goes into some of the lawsuit history between Jerry and the NFL over things like stadium revenue, and contracts signed with advertisers.

I can keep schooling you guys if you want...

(edit)

I can't obviously verify what this guy posted, so feel free to discredit him if your google-fu is up to it.
