I'll always hate Jeter because of that pop up he caught and then needlessly dove into the stands afterwards. Pokey Reese for Boston had a better catch the same day that actually required leaning into the stands to catch. Any decent fielding shortstop is slowing to a trot to make that catch.

Jeter gets too much credit for The Yankees' championships and Paul O'Neill gets far too little credit.
O'Neill won an unexpected title with The Reds, went to NYC and won 4 more in a 5 year period.
Torey called him the heart and soul of the team.

Very very few sports pro's has had his ass kissed by the media from begging to end like they have with Jeter.
And yet he felt this need to stick it to the media by the starting the Players Tribune.

I will never shed a tear for the media but it's an insight to who he is.

As time goes on you see more & more that Jeter is a selfish prick.

THE most overrated baseball player in the history of MLB.

But, hey, at least he got to suck A-Rods donk a couple hundred times. That has to to count for something, no?

Jeter was the better player on 3 of those 4 teams.

O'Neill gets his fair share of credit in New York, we loved the guy

But Jeter was the most clutch player this city, and maybe this game, has ever seen

Wagner, A-Rod, Ripken, Vaughan

Who was he better than?

Offensively he was most definitely better than Ripken. I care less about defensive metrics because I'd rather have somebody who's exceptional on offense than someone who's exceptional on defense(Ozzie Smith)

Jeter was the better player on 3 of those 4 teams.

O'Neill was the leader and the one who brought championships.
He won 5 out of his last 7 seasons, 1 with The Reds, then 4 out of 5 with NY. He was a half inning away from his 6th title against Arizona in his final game.
The Yankees didn't win another title after he retired with that core of players.
Again, his manager agreed he was the heart and soul of the team, not The STD kid.

Ripken had far more RBIs, HRs, more doubles, a much higher WAR rating, 19 all star teams to Jeter's 14, 8 silver slugger awards to Jeter's 5 and 2 MVP awards to Jeter's 0.
Jeter probably infected more women with herpes than any athlete of his generation though.

You can care less about defensive metrics, that's fine, but you can't just ignore defense. There isn't some huge gap in offense that you can argue the defense doesn't make up for it. You have to look at the full value of the player, not just the individual pieces of his game and rank them. Ripken's defense more than makes up for the offensive gap in my opinion.
