One of the more headscratching trade-ups I can think of. Might have been the single worst use of picks in the entire draft.
I mean if they can win cames by kicking full football field distance field goals more power to them. LOL. If a team doesn't know what to pick D-Line is always a good option.

What did you guys think about the Bucs taking a kicker early in the draft?

The Patriots selected the following players during the 2006 NFL Draft.

1 Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota
2 Chad Jackson, WR, Florida
3 Dave Thomas, TE, Texas
4 Garrett Mills, TE, Tulsa
4 Stephen Gostkowski, K, Memphis
5 Ryan O’Callaghan, OL, California
6 Jeremy Mincey, DL, Florida
6 Dan Stevenson, OL, Notre Dame
6 Le Kevin Smith, DL, Nebraska
7 Willie Andrews, CB, Baylor
Gostkowski is the best and only good pick for NE from the 2006 draft.
Perhaps the Bucs should have taken him sooner - if he turns out this good.....

Jason Hanson – Washington State University
In 1992, the Detroit Lions used their 2nd round pick, the 56th overall, to select Jason Hanson. Hanson would kick for the team for 20 years, working his way into being one of the best ever.

Chip Lohmiller – University of Minnesota
The Washington Redskins selected Chip Lohmiller with the 55th overall pick, a second rounder, in 1988. He would have some great seasons and contribute to some of Washington’s best teams.

Chris Bahr – Penn State University
In 1976, the Cincinnati Bengals used their second round pick, the 51st overall selection of the draft, to take Penn State’s Chris Bahr. Bahr would kick in the NFL for more than 14 years for the Bengals, Raiders, and Chargers.

Sebastian Janikowski – Florida State University
The Oakland Raiders used the 17th pick in the first round when they made Florida State’s Sebastian Janikowski the third kicker ever picked in the first round of the NFL Draft. Janikowski still kicks for the Raiders and has had a very successful career.

Nick Vannett TE Ohio State
Rees Ohadbio G Boise state
Quiton Jefferson DT Maryland
Alex Collins RB Arkansas
Joey Hunt C TCU
Kenny Lawler WR California
Zac Brooks RB Clemson

I don't know why we took so many rbs. Maybe Rawls wont be 100% before the season.

Really like the draft class.

Needed help on Oline. Check
Needed help at interior Dline. Check
Needed a true blocking TE. Check
Needed insurance at RB with Rawls recovering and Beastmode retiring.

and we got some potential gems at UDFA as well.

Makes it so much easier when you don't have to be jerking around trying to find a QB. We got a franchise one for years to come.

Russell continues to improve - great!
O-line still sucks - good thing you have RW.....

When you have a Russell Wilson, you don't have to overkill it on the Oline like the Pats have to do to protect Brady.

RW is the best mobile QB in the NFL right now and a f'n ninja at the pump fake.

Even with that terrible Oline last year, RW still put up:
68% comp rate
4,024 yds
34 TDs
RAT 110.1

Oline should improve this year. All we can ask.

The 49ers got some really good players, but they did nothing about the QB position besides drafting Alex Smith 3.0 in the 6th round.

So they still suck, and there isn't much indication that'll change any time soon. :tsk:

Alex Smith is 49-21-1 in the last 5 years. I think its fair to say that the Niners got the homeless man's version of Alex Smith in the 6th round and not Alex Smith 3.0

Alex Smith sucks. How anyone can be blind to that fact is beyond me.

I don't care what his win-loss record is. The Chiefs are carrying him, not the other way around.

Sorry bud, but his record says otherwise.

You don't think a bad QB on a good team can have a winning record?

Alex Smith is one of the easiest QBs in the NFL to defend. Just stack the line of scrimmage because he can't throw it further than 6 yards.

Regular-season wins don't matter when you get your a** handed to you by good teams (postseason). See Andy Dalton.
