Willie Horton has a statue at Comerica. They give them out like candy now a days.

Think that might have anything to do he was born and grew up in Detroit then spent his entire prime playing for the Tigers? He really wasn't that great of a player.

No, I’m serious. I didn’t even look at Killebrew’s numbers honestly. I thought he was just a power hitter. He actually was great at drawing walks. This thread actually opened up my eyes but I still won’t take him in a Salary Cap draft lolllz @Nosferatu

The 67 riots have a lot to do with it also. What he did for the city can not be forgotten, but it is still fun to use his statue to poke fun at others.

And how do I ALWAYS do that? Conversations involve two or more people talking back and forth... Do you really think I have been disrespectful in my conversations with people?
No... but you get very defensive about it and it makes me laugh.

In all seriousness, most of the time, these "Which player is better..." threads are nothing more than an exercise in splitting hairs. I'm pretty sure McCovey is taken earlier in most of our MLB drafts. But that is simply because he hit left handed and southpaws tend to go a bit higher here.

I think that goes along with what Femur said. Hard to find a LH power hitter and of course in salary cap drafts nobody is paying that high price for Killer

I was ready to say McCovey, but then I read the posts and looked at the stats ... I am lmpressed the stats are pretty equal and the character of each person is outstanding.

Killebrew.

I know they both played 22 years, and their career numbers are surprisingly similar - but Killebrew played just 113 games his first 5 seasons. Killebrew's numbers from 1959-1972 are completely unreal for the time-frame, averaging 38 HRs and 102 RBI over that span. McCovey had a span of 8 years where he hit 36 HRs and 99 RBI from 1963-1970 - but as can be seen, not only are the numbers lower, but the length of time is much shorter.
