So what happens if you hold the team in week 2 to 3 points and that team scores 3 touchdowns against Nebraska? Does that not count either?

Seems that UM holding Colorado to their lowest offensive output (224 total yards) in almost 10 years and only 3 points, while Nebraska gave up 360+ yards passing alone to Colorado and Colorado had the ball with a minute left and a chance to win doesn't count because.......oh yeah, common opponents don't shed a very good light on Nebraska.

Now let's get back to talking abouto how great Nebraska was against the teams UM didn't play and how that makes them the best. :L

I am not the guy bragging about his team beating a team that went 2-9 and playing the game in Ann Arbor.

I just merely point out that those six opponents that Michigan played that went to bowl games, lost at an average of 30-10. 0-6 in bowl games. Not one of them won. Not even close. Really? All six had a bad day on the same day? Or does that mean those six opponents were probably over-rated? Of the six Michigan opponents that went to a bowl game only two of them ended up being ranked in the final AP poll.

I point out that the same AP poll that ranked Michigan #1 only had three of their opponents in the final rankings, one in the top ten. But that same AP poll had Nebraska with five of their opponents in the final rankings, two of them in the Top Ten. Nebraska's opponents that went to bowl games were 2-2. Of the four Nebraska opponents that went to a bowl game all four of them ended up being ranked in the final AP poll.

Something along the lines of if it wasn't for Harbaugh there might be one Michigan fan actually in this discussion right now

There is one -- Me. :)

It is fun to go back and needle the Nebraska faithful for the going away gift Osborne received.

What is so difficult to grasp? It isn't bragging -- it is pointing out the obvious. Nebraska and Michigan played TWO COMMON OPPONENTS. I couldn't care less about beating Big 12 cupcakes, but those are the two games we have where we can directly look at how each team fared against the same opponent.

You can scream about point differential on the year, but I couldn't care less if you are beating Iowa State and Oklahoma by 60 points. You can scream about how much better your offense was -- yet in two common opponents, UM averaged 32.5 and Nebraska 38. You can scream about your "top 5" defense, yet while Michigan completely shut down Colorado and Baylor -- While Nebraska....................did not.

So get back to the excuses, how Missouri was a road game (even though OSU buried them by 3 tds on the road) and how Colorado was a rivalry game and UM got to play them the first game of the week or whatever excuse.

You know the truth, but the excuses make you feel better, so carry on.

In 1948 the Clemson Tigers finished 11-0. meeeechegan finished 9-0 & got the Natty. Clemson got screwed, discuss.

Clemson would have beat them in 48 worse than Nebraska would have beaten them in 97. Complete domination

Only 9 teams were willing to play UM. They didn't want to face a defense that gave up only 4 PPG on the year. Completely understandable.

1948 Michigan also > 1997 Nebraska.

Michigan should've been #1 but Nebraska was the better team and I'd imagine they would win the head to head.

The Mizzou team that should've beaten Nebraska was really good at a couple of things and mediocre/subpar at pretty much everything else. Mizzou was basically like an NCAA tourney team trying to kill clock against a #1 seed. Eventually time would run out on them. The play that Nebraska made was total BS, illegal, and a 1 in 1,000 play but I don't think that changes the dynamics of that matchup and that season in the context of what would happen if Michigan and Nebraska actually played.

I have to give the 1902 nod to Nebraska. What they did to Haskell and Grinnell is unreal!!
