If you can get 5 years of quality experience, then you're set....there shouldn't be any issues with finding a job

I have 7 years in my specialty already.

but that doesn't apply elsewhere for everyone else.
for example
if you show 20+ years experience on a resume, that gives away age.
if you're in logistics, food/hospitality, or retail, your job is never safe.
if you're ugly, you'll be losing job interviews against good looking people who may not have the experience you have

there's more that i'm missing

i'm lucky enough to have a job labeled as a 'specialist' in my rare field. it's job security but at the same time, it means i'm always going to have a job :L:laugh3:

Lucky damn dawg you are. Whats your field, btw? Just curious

it's getting there

the liberals are all centralized in and around major cities. i'm from the boondox and I hate boston and the people who vote there. same with the people who live in upstate ny/buffalo. they hate new York city.

the other problem is elderly and unemployed make up for more of this population than the workforce. so who do you think they all voted for? and the liberals with jobs in the cities? combined, they beat out country guys like me.

makes me sick that this great country will most likely be socialist by the time my son graduates HS.

The fear of communism will always keep this country from going full blown socialism, IMHO. But you see more socialist ideas like single payer systems for healthcare in the future

Balls. I got 25 yrs of quality experience & though I get interviews Im seldom considered. Probly b/c of age & being 'overpriced'. Why pay me X amount when they can get a young kid for Y amount?

I'm in science, so you can get hired with less experience in the field and age discrimination is not as much of a problem.

And in basic or general labor, all bets are off.

As far as looks, just depends on the job

I guess my last statement was a bit to ambiguous

enterprise storage array networks

basically, you have all the geeks in the world being client/user based. they come up with the software to present something via computer screen. what I do is help manage the big storage arrays on the backend feeding information to 'x' amount of servers.

the general consensus amongst my team is that you shouldn't go back more than 10 years on your resume.

if I put my resume on monster today, i'll have 3 calls and 5 emails by Friday. shit is nuts.

we may have been over this but i'll ask again

what kind of science? I use to work at huge biotech companies. they pay good around here. When I worked for Amgen, we had to make sure a batch of Enbrel was shipped out every 36 hours. ($1.X million per batch)

I never put dates on jobs, & only include jobs that are relevant to the one Im applying for. So that cuts out a lot of yrs. BUT...when I walk in the door they obviously can tell Im not a kid with a few yrs under my belt

I did alot of analytical chemistry work for 5 years then I took a contract position with a chemical manufacturing company to do product development. I'm about to start a similar position with Quikrete, but this one isnt contract based, it's full time.

I feel like Ive been talking about Tulo to the Cards for about a year and a half now. I think STL has reached a point where they HAVE to find a new SS and Tulo is a bit of a square peg in a round hole for Mozeliak and what he likes to do.

But they have to move on from Kozma. He is as out of place as a Kardashian in church

I've heard some serious talks that McCann will sign with Boston

If only that were the reason. Whatever makes you feel better.

This has nothing to do with "stars lining up", the bombing, beards, or anything else from 2013. This has to do with how the two teams line up for the future.

The Sox have a contending team. Whether you see it as a 2014 World Series winner doesn't really matter. What the Sox have are talented, young players either already on the roster, or soon to be as early as 2014. These players will be under team control for a minimum of six years on a team that has very low salary obligations beyond 2014. That gives them the ammunition to be able to extend them further and keep a core unit together without expanding the payroll beyond what it already is. Oh...and we would have the flexibility to still sign free agents.

The Yankees do not have this. They have an aging roster of high salaried players that are not getting any better. They do not have the young talent already on the roster, or soon to be coming up from the minor leagues. In fact, their best prospects all seemed to take a step back when dealing with AA ball for the first time. Forget about pitching prospects. They are non-existent, at least to the point of any contributing before 2015 or 2016.

This will set the Yankees in panic mode, because it isn't just the Red Sox they have to worry about. They may be the least talented team in the division when you factor in the minor leagues.

The Yankees aren't going to sit by with a 5 year plan while they watch their biggest rival raise flag after flag, and potentially steal away a player they really want. They are going to spend. Right up to or beyond that $189mm figure.

The most sensible post I've seen around here for a while.

Eh, I am on the fence about this possible signing. I mean he could spark the Red Sox but I don't think he is worth the money they would have to pay him

Aint that the sorry truth. Everybodys disposable/replaceable...especially when they get older
And then they try to replace their experienced employees with ones half their age, give them half of the salary and they expect better results.

Its American exceptionalism that is dying.

With the year he just had he is thinking he can get more money... Not to mention he probably isn't too happy about his deal he was supposed to get before his hip problems.... the 1 year deal instead of 3... We shall see what happens.
