Well, I believe we were talking originally about how Wisconsin kiddies were running out and trying to stick their junk in Nebraska fan's mouths when they were walking by on the way to the game..............but then we ended up talking about chants :noidea:

LOL

The Sconnie SS has always thought (from what I have experienced) that getting fired up for the game means acting like you've never had a beer before. I was at the game in 99 when Ron Dayne broke the rushing record against Iowa. Wow. Just wow.

doesn't seem that way oddly, Ohio State sure didn't lose

otherwise last year none of the other Big 10 teams that played SEC teams had a chance, for some reason the Big 10 teams get match up against a SEC team that finished higher in the SEC, than the Big 10 team did in the Big 10.

or in the case of Michigan State vs Alabama, Michigan State was a team a few bounces away from 7-5, while Alabama was perhaps a few bounces from one loss.

I'm gonna sound like a Team SECer here but...
Not the SEC's fault they have good teams(fuck all of them that aren't UGA) and are matched up against Big10 teams that are even in the standings.

And actually, in recent years with the SEC#1 going to the NCG against the Big12 & Pac-10, the Big10 should have had the advantage in the matchups since it therefore would have been something like Big10#2 against the SEC's #3 and so on.
You probably already know, but the bowl matchups should technically favor the the other conferences(you weren't talking about other conferences I know)...

It's a shame, but it seems like if you aren't Michigan, you won't beat an SEC team in a bowl.

Not even trying to start a big argument or anything...I'm just bored

Nah, Big Ten and SEC tend to each send two to the BCS games. The Big 10 has sent two teams every year since 05-06. The SEC has sent two every year since 06-07. Plus the 3 vs. 3 and 4 vs. 4 bowls have a tendency to pick schools that travel better over schools that play better.

Oh, hey, look, there's a thread here.

My take on the subject: Throwing full beer cans is terrible. First of all, you can really hurt somebody. Also, why would you waste a perfectly good beer like that? Chanting "Big Ten football" at the beginning of the game or right after Wisconsin first took the lead would have been HILARIOUS; chanting it at the end of the game was still hilarious but also inappropriate. Don't kick them when they are down. And if you are sitting in our student section in your colors, the guy who sold you the ticket deserves the "Asshole" chant. If you knew it was in the student section when you bought it, you do too.

I won't claim to dislike the "F-you" "Eat shit" chant or the "You F-ed Up" chant, but I recognize that they are beyond juvenile. Just be glad you didn't hear the "Shoot him like a horse" calls when somebody got injured. Hey, don't look at me like that! We clap when they get up!

Finally, I will say that, as a Wisconsin fan, most of our stuff is just us screwing around and having a good time at a big event. We don't actually intend any disrespect or insult towards you or yours. Please understand that. That said, we have those who just go too far, and we have our share of bad apples (giving the wrong directions is just low). For that I apologize.

PS: Rather than give false directions, he should sarcastically give technically correct ones that are still no help, and then help them out. Gotta give the opposing fans a hard time, but in a way that they know it's all in good fun.

"How do I get to the stadium?" "Walk."
"Where's the nearest bar?" "Madison, Wisconsin."
"If I said Wisconsin..." "You said it all."

Wait a minute........since when was the focus of this discussion on the kids chanting stuff???

I thought we were talking about kids running out and spitting/yelling shit into people's faces while they were walking. I couldn't give a shit less what the kids chant..........but like I said, you come running out and try to make out with me, I'm gonna punch the one or two teeth that you have right into the back of your throat.

See, THAT's how you handle the situation (provided it ain't some smokin' hot co-ed). You don't hike your skirt up and jump on a chair screaming as if a mouse ran over your toe.

calm down wisky fans, fans from every other B1G team have gone onto other boards saying the same thing we have, and claiming that you have some of the worst in the conference..

But nope, we're just a bunch of whiners, and treating the opposing fans like shit, and acting like a 12 year old who got drunk is just tradition.

I lied about not coming back. This is just incredibly hypocritical. I've never ever seen a person threatened with violence at a Wisconsin game. Outside of some asshole (who should have been arrested) throwing a beer, I doubt anyone will say they feelt phyiscally threatened. I have gone to one Iowa game in my life (our victory last year), and after the game I was threatened with violence on three seperate occasions. The only reason why I think I was not attacked is that I saw the game with some of my high school friends (who go to Iowa). When I went to the Wisconsin-Iowa game with some of them in 2009, they joined other Iowa fans and did some weird Hawkeye dance on our bleachers at the end of the game (notably more obnoxious than anything I did at Iowa). None of them were threatened. I'd rather have drunk, profane fans than possibly violent ones.

Lastly, the fact that Wisconsin people came up to your face and told you we were going to win happened BECAUSE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME YOU PLAYED A TEAM THAT WAS LEGITIMATELY MUCH BETTER THAN YOU. I'll bet that any team you guys play would act similarly if they had a team capable of beating you 48-17. All right, now I am out, for the moment at least. We've learned our lesson. Next time you come into town, we will send you to a tailgate at the Mormon temple or something. I was looking forward to watching a game in Lincoln someday, but if people are going to shun any commentary about the respective strength of teams and any PG-13 rated chants, I doubt that will be much fun. Prove me wrong someday, guys.

I was not in attendance for this one but will share some thought.

Nebraska fans as a whole are extremely cordial to opponents and their team.

They do their best to make the trip an enjoyable one for opposing teams. (Less the score board in most cases). <-- I know Texas, you got the upper hand here too, but bet you were treated right even though...... LOL...

Dr. Tom (Husker AD) is a soft spoken professional who expects his student section to behave in a way that perpetuates an enjoyable experience for all involved. He does not have issue with tolerable banter that will not offend guest at our stadium (including women and children).

Not sure what happened in Madison this past weekend (on the field or off)... LOL... but will say that should you look at the comments from almost every opponent that has ever traveled to Lincoln, you will find that the opposition has said.... "Nebraska is one of the best places they have ever been too when it comes to being able to enjoy a game ... win or lose!"

We have a much older crowd than most, which is probably one of the reasons for this... however; I can assure you that if a student within the stadium jumped into the face of an opposing fan, not only would that student be promptly ejected out of the stadium, I suspect the Husker crowd would be sure to point out the culprit.

If it was outside of the stadium, I am not sure, but believe our campus police along with city police would escort them off campus and if need be, invite them to a free night stay in our local jail.

For me personally, I am one who doesn’t care about jest and cursing towards the teams on the field or fan banter from a respectable distance... But I do have my personal space that better damn well be respected.... if that space is violated... so shall the offender be violated with just cause and swift corrective actions.

Look, we took it on the field and so be it... our fans travel very well and significantly impact the economics within the state we visit on road games...

It may not matter to the student section or may be acceptable for some of the student section at Wisconsin to go overboard, but I suspect after seeing the economic impact we just made in Madison, things will be reviewed if only to protect the income each of those establishment made.

I am too pissed at our performance to give much further thought on this matter but suspect that should the Wisconsin fans come to Lincoln next year, they will truly see the difference between (civilized banter) and what has been stated in this thread herein.

I am not a saint and have my moments of getting heated and saying things I should not, but one thing I do try to accommodate is respecting people and their space as well as their opinion until it is otherwise proven that they are not deserving of such.

With all the above being stated..... by all means... carry on...

I think the big difference between the two teams is Nebraska hosts home games and the majority of all fans extend the courtesy a host would to the visitors. They will do whatever possible to make the visit enjoyable in their home.

Wisconsin from what I am reading (second hand, was not there) seems to feel like they have been invaded by the visiting team and its fans or at best an uninvited guest who is not welcome, therefore feeling a need to defend their university against the invaders.

The difference in attitude will make all the difference in behavior.

I'm literally cracking up here, guys. Arrest people for leaning towards you and saying "You're going down"? Seriously? That is the most Draconian thing that I have ever heard when referencing the United States. You say our student section was inappropriate because kids might have heard us. That's funny, because I saw a replay of the game yesterday, and the only swear that I heard was a Nebraska player shouting "FUCK" after we scored a TD to go up 41-17 (I think it was that TD). Are you guys going to kick him off the team?

What you guys are describing as welcoming sounds downright scary, and to be quite honest, violates everything I love about sports. Sports are a chance to let loose after a long week, and act like something pointless in the grand scheme of things is the end of the world. I love the sport as well, but the student section is what sets college sports apart from the pros. I've never known before that there were people who think fans of opposite teams shouldn't talk trash before the game, that students shouldn't swear or whatever.

Wisconsin welcomes opposing college football fans. Unfortunately, it sounds like fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers are not fans of the traditions and splendor that make college football great. It amazes me that you guys spend thousands of dollars on tickets only to yell at the people that make attending a game more special than watching on television. If you don't like coordinated chants or trash talk, then why wouldn't you just watch a game on television.

I don't have a problem with the chants, though I will never bring my daughter to a game there, meaning I most likely will never go to a game there. Talking trash is fun too but talking trash is a lot different then getting in somebody's face.

But we probably do have a different idea of where the line in the sand is. If someone gets up in my face I will be fighting or at least putting the guy on his ass when I push him out of my face. If he isn't man enough to get back up swinging then there will be no fight.

But getting up in peoples faces is just who you are, right?

I wish I could see what you guys mean by "getting up in people's face". My hunch (as a Bears fan in Madison, as well as a Badgers fan whose walked around Camp Randall or gameday many times) is that this means that in a crowded/loud walkway they leaned in so as to direct their comment. I don't see a problem with this. If people are legitimately getting in people's way and walking up and shouting in their face, that is something else. If that is what you guys are referring to, i'd understand how you can be upset. At the same time, that isn't normal for Camp Randall. In fact, i've never seen that at Camp Randall and it seems downright comical when I try to envision it.

I wasn't there but I am seeing a lot of reports, not just on this board but others too of what might be considered Xtreme trash talking.

Honestly are we the only team that has come away from there dissapointed with how they were treated?

I know Nebraska fans may have high expectations because we felt a kindred spirit with Wisky coming into the B1G but honestly are we the only ones?

Okay. Let me remind you that this is the student section., not the entire fan base. The broad generalization is disappointing to me.

I don't think the Big Ten football chant was funny at all. I thought it was intended as a taunt, which is just retarded, because Nebraska and their fans were excited to join the Big Ten.

I hope that it wasn't intended as a taunt, and that it was intended for the nationwide viewers, to say hey....see...Nebraska can't just walk into the Big Ten and own it like many of you thought.

And for the last time HuskerInSECLand....that wasn't what I was talking about when I said, "That's just who we are," and I'd appreciate if you would either read what I've said in the thread since, and you and the rest of the snarky folks around here can stop throwing it back in my face.

Honestly Bucky I got a lot of respect for you and didn't even remember who said it or the context it was said in.

It just seemed to fit there. I got a smart ass gene that has got me in trouble before too.

Rep to make up for it.

I really am curious though if we are the only one's thus making us whiners or if others have bitched.

Also it doesn't sound like the getting in peoples faces were students only. I may be wrong. It would be the first time but it is still possible.

I've heard complaints about our profanity before, definitely. It normally hasn't been in the context of "it was insulting and disrespectful to the fans." People that complain typically say, "I wish I would have known about it so I don't take my kids" or something along those lines. I never have heard from fans that consider us assholes before, though to be fair, I didn't hear it from Nebraska fans at the game either. The people that sat by me had a good time and went said they went into the game expecting some friendly, profane banter.

I'm literally cracking up here, guys.

(Smart):

If it was that simple... hollering you're going down... then would not be an issue... at all... or you guys suck type comments....

Again; not knowing first hand I say this with only what I have read here...

If they were within reaching distance and verbally assaulting persons (screaming vulgar comments about them personally and or throwing beer cans at fans) <-- I take issue with and would promptly kick the fuck out of out the ignorant ass holes who chose this path.

I know who I am and have no need to ridicule people to get a laugh from peers... as obviously some (hopefully a small %) of your students feel the need to do.

I am also the same son of a bitch that when sitting with friends at a restaurant eating supper and engaging in a conversation with them... will make sure that no vulgar comments are made (by us) or loud enough to be heard by the family next to us with a woman and children present.

I have been known to belittle assholes who don't respect others in such public places. Is it my place?... I think so, as a man and as a person who still has a little faith in the human race... I believe I have a moral obligation to protect the innocent.

Badger Stadium with all of its luster is still a public gathering place and if you are too fucking young to understand what this means... I suggest you re-visit this situation some day when you take your wife and kids on a road trip to watch your team play a team with a fan base who throws a beer on you or kids or wife, or gets in your wifes face and states things that are offensive to her...

If a supposed man is not bothered by that then.... then they are no fucking man!

I know very well what sporting events are supposed to be like for fans and players... Again, as a player or fan... I have no problem you calling me fucking moron, asshole, pussy... whatever... as long as you do it from a far... as this is something that just happens and is not something to worry about.... but you get within my 40" reach... and do the same... or if I have my wife and kids at my side and they are subject to your ignorant abuse...

Their fucking ass would be mine.... BOOK IT

You're not the only ones, and the more I've thought about it, the more annoyed I've gotten with the students. For the most part, you're all probably talking about the same handful of idiots. The housing that lines certain routes to the stadium has always been a little rowdy. I mean Irule probably saw the 3 story beer bongs... I'd guess it was the same pricks harassing JJM's uncle and Irule. That one guy out of every 100 along Frat Row or whatever.... It still doesn't even represent the majority of the student section, most of them were elsewhere getting ready for game time.

But after that experience, I can understand why people would be less inclined to forgive the vulgarity of the whole student section.

I don't know. I still just don't think that of the 70,000 or so Badger fans on hand for the game, that it was even 1% of that who were causing problems.

The sad thing is, what do you do about it? I guess Barry could try to push for some funding to get some mounted officers every 40 yards or so..... But I don't know, that seems like it would be more money than it's worth if nobody is getting hurt.
