Ya. There is a bit of an all or nothing attitude there. When they go stupid, they tend to go all the way stupid. But usually they're not the majority. The only chant I really didn't like was the Big Ten football chant. I understand why they did it, because a lot of fans on the outside(especially tSEC) predicted that Nebraska would walk through the B1G. But they should have known that Nebraska fans are happy to be here.

doesn't seem that way oddly, Ohio State sure didn't lose

otherwise last year none of the other Big 10 teams that played SEC teams had a chance, for some reason the Big 10 teams get match up against a SEC team that finished higher in the SEC, than the Big 10 team did in the Big 10.

or in the case of Michigan State vs Alabama, Michigan State was a team a few bounces away from 7-5, while Alabama was perhaps a few bounces from one loss.

Wisconsin didn't avoid us.....in fact the entire B1G expansion of bringing us in, Wisconsin was the team that probably got the least amount of what they wanted. They wanted us, Iowa, and Minnesota in their division....what they got was Minnesota a cross-division protected rivalry.....

I was implying that when giving Nebraska a cross divisional rival they wanted to match a program that could compare with Nebraska. Seeing as Ohio State is already taken by Michigan we got Penn State. I was implying that Wisconsin's football program historically wasn't holding up its end of the stick to get us.

There were a bunch of reports of Penn State fans throwing stuff at Ohio State fans when those two played in 2008 as #3 and #9. No one thought that was OK, certainly not other Penn State fans.

But, Wisconsin fans WILL chant "Asshole, Asshole..." as opposing fans pass on game days. Especially if they're walking down Frat Row or on certain streets near the stadium where there's a lot of tailgating. Wisconsin fans will chant "You fucked up, you fucked up..." when an opposing team commits a penalty like a false start in a key situation. Of course they do the "eat shit, fuck you" to each other.

Seriously, to complain about a bunch of drunk college kids having potty mouths IS whiny.

As Smart said, it's not like Wisconsin students were running down from their porch as you passed on the sidewalk, pointing a finger at your face and screaming "Asshole!". They were indiscriminately chanting that whenever opposing fans pass by. For the record, I did that myself as a student at our fraternity tailgates. The only time we held back was if we noticed small children in the group. People that could play along and say something back earned more respect.


That said, I always felt that individual Wisconsin fans were polite and welcoming to individual visiting fans. I'd always end up talking to visiting fans, having a beer, watching the other games that day, etc. The profane chants aren't directed against individual visiting fans, they're directed against the opponent in the abstract. So yeah, when a group of half a dozen or so people walk past wearing different colors, kids will start up the "Asshole" chant. There's no way that if you walk up and introduce yourself to a Wisconsin fan in Madison, he's going to call you an asshole or anything of the sort to your face.
