huge blow to the cards. I think this is the final straw. I fully expect the nl to adopt the dh next season

I dont but if the NL were to ever adopt the dh, it would be 2 or 3 big pitchers going down in the same year while batting.

I think Wainwright might have been a ticking time bomb regardless. Still really frustrating.

Nothing etched in stone, yet. Having an MRI tomorrow, so we can keep our fingers crossed.

And I am still against the DH. When a player like Edgar Martinez said that for the last 5-7 years of his career, he didn't even have a baseball glove anymore. Just something not right about that.

No DH...players blow out Achilles in all sorts of ways...shit happens. The loss of Waino is huge and you just know another starter will be hitting the DL this year also.

One can never have enough pitching depth

Watching a guy like Edgar, Papi or Frank Thomas extend their careers at DH is sooooo much better than watching Ian Kennedy lay down a bunt. It's this way of thinking that keeps baseball stuck in the past.

But it makes the managers job a lot easier with the DH. No decisions on when to replace a pitcher with a DH, no double switches. To each their own with their views of the DH, but mine will never change. Old fashioned, but I don't care.

You like the DH, we don't. Let's keep it that way.

I go to watch a good game. A good game uses every aspect of the game. Roster management, lineup strategy, small ball, and even the occasional Weaver Special.

The AL only relies on the Weaver Special.

Definitely damaging to the Cards, but their other starters have also been quite good to begin the season. Wonder who takes Wainright's spot in the rotation?

Yes, and no. Starters basically only go 6 innings now, anyway. The pitch count manages the managers.

My issue with pitchers hitting is they just make too much damn money now. If I were the Dodgers, I would be afraid to let Kershaw go up there at all. So many ways for pitchers to get hurt before they even grab a bat.

Players used to play both ways in the NFL, too. In the era of specialization, that kind of thinking is just plain outdated.

Apples and oranges.

There was not a rules change in the NFL dictating that if a player played DE in a game he was not eligible to play HB or TE in the same game.

Extrapolate this plan further in baseball. Why not simply hit 9 DHs? Imagine the increase in defense if we never had to worry about a speedy CFers bat. Imagine the offense if we didn't have to see a gold-glove SS bat in the 8-hole.
