Washington lucked out: lost their coach and improved (got an upgrade) doing so.
No and Yes.
Petersen didn't fit in down in la la land and probably never would have. Sark has the arrogance to make himself at home there. He also saw how that program can run on all cylindars under Carroll and knows what it will take to bring them back.
Both teams got the coach that was better for them in this deal. Sark likely wasn't going to get to a title here and Petersen would have been like a fish out of water down there.
Usc couldnt match udubs offer

Peterson should be the #1 canidaite for any job in America IE Florida , Texas, USC and so on
he takes the job at Washington just bizarre. I don't get it
Really?!? USC was willing to pay up to $6 million a year for a coach. Petersen got $3.6 million per year. Please explain how USC "couldn't match udubs offer".
As Wizard said, both programs got the coach that was the best fit for their program.

Should have used the sarcasm font.
USC couldn't have gotten Petersen if they wanted to, Peterson said thanks but no thanks to USC
The question is not why did USC pick Sark over Petersen, the question is why did Petersen pick UW over USC. If you go read the Petersen to Washington thread, people gave a lot of great reasons why Petersen would like UW/Seattle over USC/Los Angeles
