Isn't it amusing? For years Serena has been blasted for playing fewer tourneys, cherry-picking and not serious about tennis. Now that she is healthy and playing more she is being blasted for doing exactly that. As usual this tennis superstar never wins with these folks. Unbelievable.

I'm not blasting her for anything. All that I am saying is that I am less sympathetic to the fatigue argument for someone who doesn't play tourneys than I am for a 6'11 guy who has worked his ass to be fit and always plays a full schedule. I'm glad Serena has played a serious schedule this year, and I hope she does it more.

IMO, her disregard for lower tournaments has hurt tennis a lot and is the biggest flaw in an otherwise brilliant career.

Nadal just won ugly against Djoko by going full blast with a head blow at the net. This is just one of myriads of example by this donkey.

Hitting at the opponent is fair game, IMO.

Nole doesn't have to like it, though.

True, but when an opponent offers or raises his hand in apology have the decency to recognize him not snob him. Djokovic realized his mistake and probably atoned for it during the handshake.

What else was he going to do? Going at Novak was the only move he had or he would have lost that point. Which means Djokovic would be sitting on a 40-15 advantage on Rafa's serve with 2 chances to break.

He could have won the point going on either side. He went at Nole to guarantee that he got the point. That shows he has no class. He may be a champion but he reminds me of a dictator who basked in the glory of his shameful deeds.

Well, the same old Sharapova with some obscene unforced errors. Jimmy Connors has his work cut out for him

How about Sloan? After Sharapova broke early in the 2nd to go up 2-0, I thought that was it

Just a hunch....do you not play tennis? I go at my friends if its my best play when we play for fun. Calling out a guy for making that play in the championship of a 1,000 tourney when you are working towards #1 in the world is either trollish or shows a fundamental lack of tennis understanding.

Which is it?

Turns out Isner's decisions this summer were pretty much perfect. Won a tournament, made the finals of another, and just beat the #1 player in the world, Novak Djokovic, to make the semis of a Masters 1000 tournament right before the US Open.

Bravo to John and his team.

Big J. surprised me there. I watched the match and was very impressed with the way he played the long rallies. Impressive. He turned the table around and did what people do to him (namely get the serve back and outrally him in long rallies).

Yeah good summer for him but the truth of the matter is this summer means nothing IMO if he does not at least get to the 2nd week of the Open.

I've never seen him hit from the ground as well as he did today.

I think it will be a really tall order for him to keep up that level of play, but it was sure fun to watch.

If he makes the 2nd week and lose to a top 10 player in a 4 or 5 set match, I won't be disappointed in him.

What a shot to end the 1st set by Fed!!!!

Don't underestimate the impact that winning a 1,000 level event would have, both in terms of point and legacy. Such few payers have broken through in the Fed/Nadal/Nole era. For example, Berdych and DelPo (the other two guys in the semis) have won a combined one, and it was Berdych at Bercy in 05 when it was carpet.

Plus, 1,000 points is huge. Wawrinka has less than 3,000 and he is #9. With even an average yer by Isner's standards, he'd set himself up to make the top ten again.

Isner should go all out at Cincy, even if it jeopardizes his chances at the USO.

This is the best Fed-Nadal match since the 2009 AO. Just great, great shotmaking by two legends.

Very nice first set from Federer.

But he's fallen back into pushing backhands into the middle of the court now. It's hard for him to hit deep off that side for more than a set or two against the heavy topspin of Rafa.
