Welp, Tony Franklin was hired by Cal, so there goes that...

It's looking more and more like we're going to have to be ok with zero changes being made...again...

Well that sucks, but I didnt expect to get Franklin anyway. However I do still expect Newsome to be gone and Stiney to be demoted. If not, then expect VT football to suffer until Beamer retires.

It was a huge pipe dream getting Tony Franklin IMO from the get-go. The only people making any connection were US .. the message board people .. He and Bud probably haven't spoken for decades. We were hoping and dreaming ... If there is a change made at OC, I could see us grabbing Bustle, Rogers, Fridge ... not sure how well known the ODU HC and OC are to Frank Beamer, but I would have to think that they're given a look. I just don't think an offense like that will work without some tweaking and a good running game coordinator to tie the run into a system like that.

Fair enough. Any thoughts on someone who's been better with QBs?

I guess that's the big question. Some people will rage over the boring style but I've always been impressed with the job Dana Bible has done with several quarterbacks. Roper, Duke's OC/QB coach, has been with Cutcliff for a long time. They do a pretty good job with the often limited talent they've gotten. Not sure why David Yost quit at Mizzou, but he is available and his work was impressive up until this year.

Also, a relative no name (because I like trying shit up against the wall), but Scott Satterfield was Appy State's OC/ QB Coach for their best years. He moved up and had a great year at Toledo and improved FIU for a few years, and is currently the interm HC at Appy State. If he doesn't want or get the full time title there, I wouldn't be upset if he got an interview to mix things up.

It's all fun to think about.

I know I am kind of reaching here, but anyone ever heard of Chris Klenakis?? I hadn't either until starting a google search for the Nevada offensive coordinator. He coached under Nevada head coach Chris Ault for a number of years helping and he and Ault developed the "Pistol" Offense. He moved on to Arkansas several years ago to be Petrino's OLine coach. I would imagine he is available...right now. Don't know anything about him, but has a good resume.

Sounds like a guy that will land on his feet pretty fast. Worth a look.

Can Jim Weaver force Frank to hire and fire personnel?

I also wonder that if Bud becomes HC, will he hire Todd Grantham as DC. Two masterminds of defense collaborating schemes, mixing 3-4 and 4-2-5 defense.
i know this is highly doubtful but cool to think about

So a bad OC for a mediocre one? Perfect!

1) Weaver has the power to fire Beamer, so he ultimately has the power to fire assistants. Will he though? Not a chance.

2) If Bud ever becomes HC, it's widely believed that Wiles will be the DC. Most people think that if Bud leaves the program Wiles will follow him as the DC.

How about Jim Chaney .. OC at Tennessee (or at least for now). He may be out of a job soon. He'd be an expensive get (current salary is in the $550k range).

David Yost would probably be a decent get too.

fuck it .. i'm off the franklin bandwagon and on the fridge bandwagon .. he and stiney can be "co-coordinators" if it tickles Frank's fancy .. and stiney and shane can recruit .. get o'cain and newsome outta there and get someone else who can recruit (jmu ol coach or washington from the ravens) .. we just gotta keep the dude kicking until Frank retires.

Franklin was too hot a commodity. I knew it was too late with him. You're right on the rest. I think changes will be made but Beamer will have to get lucky to find a good OC in my opinion. I just don't think he knows what to look for. If you've got a clue you don't put Stinespring at OC or Newsome at OL and you certainly don't leave them there for half a decade or more while they suck it up

If Fridge loses weight like old Frank, we won't even recognize him.

i'll be fine with whatever change we make so long as the person we bring is isnt "multiple" and actually brings an offensive identity. id be fine bringing in a pistol offense specialist. one of our problems nowaways is that our coaches have no clue how to run all of these offenses that we are trying to implement now. we need someone who knows what they are doing and specialize in that style of offense, rather than being a jack of all trades and master of none.

We should hire Paul Johnson as our OC. Convert Logan Thomas and Martin Scales to B-back, make Mark Leal the QB, and put Coleman, Holmes and Gregory at A-back. We would be unstoppable.

I don't know if you're kidding or not but that would be a kick ass offense compared to what we saw this year. VT needs some brains on the offensive side in a bad way. If VT had an OC worth a dang I guarantee he would've benched LT and if he didn't get his way, leave the situation just like the UVA guy

Tom Herman is a member of Mensa. Just sayin'.

I just want an OC that can connect with the QBs and get them back to where we all know they can be.
