Yep, that's what it looks like.

The fact that GM's of 50+ win teams in the east are just conceding and planning for the future is something that will become part of LeBron's legacy.

It's a factor, but it's just one of many. Makes no sense to throw trade assets at Paul George if he won't sign an extension. They could take the risk that they could convince him with a strong run this year and next, but you can't gamble most of your assets on that risk. Really, that's what the Celtics roster is, an unbalanced assemblage of assets. Ainge is waiting for another KG deal to fall into his lap.

Gibson is going to be a FA this summer, must be they weren't expecting to keep him.
I understand that but at least get a piece we can help build the team. They got nothing and they also traded their best 3pt shooter oh by the way bulls 3pt shooting is bad and we just got worse

Honestly, that does not matter because the Bulls are going nowhere this year. If Payne develops into a solid PG, this deal will end up being a win for them. Big "if", but McDermott is nothing special and Taj will be gone by the time the Bulls are able to build again.

They swung and missed on Rondo and probably overpaid Wade given what he has left in the tank. Building around Butler sounds nice in theory, but how exactly are they going to put contender caliber pieces around him? Given how things have gone with Butler and the FO, it would be a shock if he were to resign when he eventually becomes a FA.

The Bulls have no choice but to trade Butler, and this off season will likely yield the highest price.

They forgot about the Blazers-Pelicans mega trade- Plumlee for Nurkic and a 1st round pick.

It favors Portland as they get a more defensive minded center and a 1st round pick (for what that may be worth). Plumlee was set to be a free agent and Portland couldn't afford to resign him.

I'd place it in the "meh" category.

Their trade deadline really don't make much sense. It's tough to go halfway when building your team; either you're a buyer or a seller. The Bulls played the middle ground in a way that gained them an unproven prospect that they really like in place of two players that help now. Butler probably should've been moved as well, and maybe that's the next step during the offseason when they can take a little more time and get the deal they want (or closer to it).

Nurkic's new Portland dentist may grade it higher than "meh"...

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but can anyone explain why Dallas cut Deron Williams and Andrew Bogut if they still paid them their contracts. Maybe there was a settlement as I assume, but someone told me they got their remainders. Are there any offsets? Is this part of showing free agents that the team won't keep people who don't want to be there and will pay their contracts in good faith, letting them move on? I'm not saying it's altruistic, but it didn't seem like they were cutting anything in half or anything.

Cuban talked about it on recent podcast. He said that if Mavericks were looking good for playoffs -- he would have kept them. But they had like a 3 game losing streak just before AS break -- and the team decided to play the young guys. Once Mavs decided that -- Mark said they decided to let Bogut & Williams go.

Although this hurt Mavs a little in the short-term -- but cutting them -- it was clear that Carlisle would only play younger guys. Mark was very clear that their culture is to always do their best to win games. He said if Mavs playing well with young guys costs them a few spots in the draft -- they would accept that.

Pretty much trading one pick (Payne) who hasn't panned out for another (McBuckets)

Payne has show nothing so far. Backup at best.

It looks like Wizards didn't do too badly. Bogdanovic had 27 last nt in win vs Raptors & their bench actually won the game. Jennings should also help the bench.

Technically, Dallas traded Bogut to the Sixers, who then waived him.

Thanks both of you. It was a standup thing for Cuban to do for Williams (holding no well-paid hostages, letting him chase his ring) and yes, I messed up on Bogut being traded. The trade helped the Sixers in cap, I think.

Not sure if there was an offset by Williams deal in Cleveland.

15 points and 17 boards for Noel in his first start for the Mavs. That doesn't suck

I am not gonna TOTALLY jump the gun and say Deron Williams will 100% be a Cav- but it sure seems that way.

If they end up finishing it off and getting him- they will all of a sudden have one of the better backup PGs in the NBA.

Im so glad they didnt jump the gun and do something stupid a month/6 weeks ago.

I'd like to see them go with Williams at PG and Irving at SG in certain lineups....for short stretches.

The bold is what Chris Mannix was suggesting on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. He was saying that Ainge may be looking at the Cavs and the fact that with Lebron getting older and playing a lot of minutes, the Cavs window may be closing and the Celtics are positioned to strike when it closes.

Mannix also pointed out that, if this is the case, it's risky on the Celtics part because Lebron really hasn't slowed much yet, so they could see their own window close before it ever opens if guys decide to leave as FA's before the Cavs window closes completely.

This makes sense.
