I'm expecting Wisconsin by 5-10 points at home, but there are no easy outs in the Big Ten it seems (well, except maybe Northwestern).

Wisconsin will be favored at least until Feb 1st vs. OSU (and perhaps even in that game, since it's in Madison), but Iowa, Illinois, @Indiana, Michigan, @Minnesota and @Purdue are all games that any team CAN lose.

I went out on a limb and picked the Hawks in the CBB pick em we have here but Im not really sold on it. Going to have to shoot the 3 better than we did against the Huskers to win.

Badgers most difficult challenge this season might be @ Illinois.

still pretty early on to be getting cocky, Luke...

you might be right.
moreover...
the Badgers might have the softest ooc & conf schedules in the B1G this season.
that might be good for them.
(certainly has been so far, eh?)
carry on.

??? Why in the world would that be the Badgers toughest game?? Illini are OK but there are 5-7 teams in the B10 better than Illini. Unless you think its a trap game or something?? Not familiar with where that game lands in Wiskys schedule.

I don't think it's too far of a stretch. They don't play MSU or Ohio State on the road. It really comes down to who you think is better between Iowa and Illinois. Illinois has the best win but they also have the worst loss between the two. Illinois is better in the RPI as well. Based on resume Illinois will be their toughest road game. Based on talent, depth and experience it may be Iowa.

let them enjoy their cake...

Well I know I could look it up H2S :) LOL. I was just surprised Dayne thought @ Illinois would be ( potentially ) the Badgers biggest challenge.

dunno...
he might have been crowing Wisky's totally weakassed H&A schedule...their only scheduled away game against a (currently) ranked opponent is 22FEB @ Iowa...they only play MSU and OSU once, both at the Kohl.

I haven't studied every B1G team's non-conference schedule, but I have a hard time believing Wisconsin's non-conference schedule was the easiest. I agree that our conference schedule is easiest (Badgers only play OSU and MSU once and they're both at home... how does that even happen?).

Not that preseason rankings or analyses are ever close to accurate, but for what it's worth here's what ESPN said about OOC schedules before the season:

Nonconference schedule analysis: Big Ten - ESPN

They had Wisconsin tied with Michigan for the toughest non-conference slate in the B1G (MSU was probably underranked).

Sure a lot fewer of those teams look like tournament teams in January, but still... Florida, Virginia, Marquette, St John's, WVU, SLU and even Green Bay (#14 seed in the latest Bracketology) is not a terrible OOC schedule.

Must be why they have the 2nd ranked RPI and 17th toughest Strength Of Schedule in all of basketball then: RealTimeRPI.com Wisconsin Badgers Men's College Basketball Rating Percentage Index (RPI) Ratings - A leading sports ratings and resources community on the Internet

Agree, nothing wrong with Wisconsin's OOC schedule. At the current moment it's rated 18th in the country. 10 of their 13 games were against top 150 teams and 6 of those were against top 100 teams. Other than Florida they don't have an outstanding win, but they don't have any games dragging them down outside of 2 games against the top 200.

As a comparison just using the OP's team, MSU played only 7 top 150 teams and 4 top 100 teams and have an OOC SOS of 63.

Wisconsin is a very good team this year. IMO they have the best odds to get a #1 seed at the moment.

All this RPI talk led me to some research. The B10 is the ONLY conference in the country that boasts a winning record vs the top 100 in the RPI ( B10 is 32-30 vs the top 100 ). Probably why 11 of the 12 teams in the league reside in the top 100. Stupid Northwestern.... LOL

Not only that, but we only hit just over 50% from the line against The Corn...

For sure. FT's have been a weakness this year which is surprising since we shot them so well last year.

OK 2 part B10 RPI trivia question: #1- 4 B10 teams have victories over top 25 RPI teams, name them.
#2- 3 B10 teams have 0 wins vs RPI top 100 teams, name them.

Looks good to me. Iowa's single team B1G sched includes Neb, Penn St, Purdue and Indy. wanna trade?

#1 - I can only think of 3. Michigan State, Illinois, Wisconsin.

#2 - Northwestern, Nebraska, Indiana?

Correct. You got 3 of the 4 with top 25 wins too.

I just can't think of the other. I know Ohio State(best win NDSU), Iowa(Xavier) and Minnesota(Florida State) don't.

As reference I used the ESPN RPI rankings. Not sure if the other teams with a top 25 win would have a top 25 win using Realtime or CBS etc etc ( since their win is over a team right on the verge of being in or out of the top 25 )
