Michigan State is listed a pretty surprising number of times

The AP pollsters make mistakes in the pre-season and after the bowls are played too. Hello 1997

Is this shocking to anyone?

All time: Notre Dame ties USC at the buzzer for the most ever, with 2016’s eight-point loss to Michigan State keeping the Spartans from doing that instead.

Didn't click the link, but 2012 USC has to be on there.

I have to disagree with Michigan making the list in 2007. Yes, we had the biggest upset ever happen to us being ranked #5 in the pre-season but what most people forget is that Michigan finished 9-4 and ranked #18 to end the season. While we were "over ranked" we only finished 13 spots lower than our initial ranking. But we weren't even the most over ranked team that season. Florida started the season at #6 and ended up unranked. Cal started at #12 and ended up unranked and 7-6. Same with 2007 Louisville, ranked #10 to start the season and ended up 6-6 and unranked.

So while Michigan did have the biggest upset of all time occur that year, I dismiss the idea that we were severely over ranked that year. Our losses came to the national championship FCS team, #5 OSU, #23 Oregon and #24 Wisconsin. The article says we got "blown out twice" but outside of Oregon, our losses were by 2, 16 and 11 points. None more than a two score loss.

Florida finished 13th the AP that season, and entered bowl season in the top 10. I think you can make a case for Michigan since you guys entered the season ranked 5th and entered bowl season unranked. But I would agree Louisville and Cal make more sense than even Michigan does for being #1 in terms of over ranked to start the season. I also think you can make a case for Rutgers, and also Notre Dame, the fact that we even had receiving votes(which put us in the top 30) I think is worse than anybody, but I can understand if you're strictly sticking to top 25 teams. But to go from top 30 to 3-9 is rather atrocious.

I missed florida on that list. I see you're right. But I think my point still stands there and you bring up a few others. Michigan from 5 to 18 really doesn't make sense and probably wouldn't be on the list at all if it weren't for the single high-profile loss to App State.

So the AP sold a lot of magazines and newspapers with these predictions.
Yawn.

Didn't we have some kind of pre-season top 25 list out last year or something.
I think it got closer than anybody else.

Michigan being more high profile than Cal and Louisville is also going against them I'm sure. Like I said, I wouldn't put them #1 in 2007, but I could understand why they would be considered. I'd have them 3rd personally, behind Louisville than Cal.

If you lost to an FCS team, #24 Wisconsin and 39-7 to #23 Oregon, one could make the argument that your were overrated at #18.

How you guys climbed to #15 prior to the Wisconsin game that year baffled me. You had one decent win against a ranked Penn St that would follow up their loss to you by losing to Illinois.

You guys went from unranked to #15 by running the gauntlet of Northwestern, Eastern Michigan, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota and a .500 Michigan St team...Laughable.

Luckily for you, you beat an also overrated Florida team in your bowl game or you would have finished unranked. Also, Florida didn't finish unranked they finished an overrated #13. Also, to use your argument, Louisville and Cal didn't lose to an FCS team and Cal didn't lose any by more than 14.

So no, you were not overrated in the 2012 USC or 2000 Alabama sense...but you were pretty overrated for 2007.

:L

Of course it's the dumbass Michigan fan that cries about being listed in a season where they lost to a FCS team after starting the season with national championship hopes.

PS: It's funny calling 16 points "no more than a two score loss". You lost by more than 2 touchdowns, and have to include 2 2 point conversions, but don't think you got blown out.
