Ok Chris Paul did it two seasons, between 2007 - 2009. He was my pick for MVP in 2007-2008.

I guess he had 21.1, and not 21.3, but since the assists and steals are well above what I wanted, I can tolerate a 0.2 reduction in desired PPG.

Still, his FT% was never 90%+ those two years.

He has 4 seasons of 90%+ shooting, all at age 29+. I looked to see whether his 289/321 FT season should have counted for .900, or if he had help due to rounding. It counts, he legitimately got .900+ without rounding.

I'll just make sure it's clear right now:

Whether Haliburton gets the initial thresholds I wanted of 10.7 assists, 21.3 points, or not, he is a better playmaker than Chris Paul.

I would take any of Haliburton's seasons of playmaking, over any of Chris Paul's.

Paul does have the huge edge in steals, over Haliburton, during some of Paul's seasons. So Paul wins the better stealer, by a lot.

Gee, I don’t know. 16 fewer points in a season would be a dealbreaker for me. ;)

Technically speaking, one could average 21.149 versus 21.25 and have it represented as 21.1 versus 21.3. That would only be nine points different if playing 82 games.

I hate the rounding crap. When I look at averages, and it's that close to the threshold, I want to make sure he's above it, without rounding.

Nine points is nine points. Either you get them, or you don't.

I've mentioned this before, but Kris Middleton was so close to a historic season.

He went 471 / 947. If he had gone 474/947, he would have had .5005 FG.

He did go 147 / 354 = .415 3-point %. That is good.

He did go 208 / 227 which is .916.

So he was 3 missed FGs away from 50% FG, 40% 3-point %, and 90% FT, in 2019 - 2020.

2008 - 2009:

Jose Calderon went 320 / 644 FG. If he had gone 322 / 644, he would have been at .5000 FG.

He did go 82 / 202 = .406 3-point %.

He did go 151 / 154 on FTs, which is .981. He won the FT% title.

So he was 2 missed FGs from the 50% FG, 40% 3-point %, and 90% FT.

2014 - 2015:

Kyle Korver went 292 / 600 FG, .487. If he had made 8 more FGs, he would have been at .50000 FG.

He went 221 / 449, which is .492 3-point %. If he had made 225 3-pointers, he would have been at .5011 3-point %, which would have been awesome.

He went 106 / 118 on FTs, for .898. If he had made 1 more FT, he would have been at .9068.

So he was 8 missed FGs and 1 FT from a 50% FG, 50% 3-point %, AND 90% FT.

So, I always LOOK frustrated at Middleton for his 3 missed FGs, Calderon for his 2 missed FGs, and Korver for his 8 missed FGs, 4 missed 3-pointers, and 1 missed FTs.

Korver never had a 50% FG season in his career.

Steve Kerr did a 50% FG, 50% 3-point %, and 90% FT, but he didn't qualify for FT% because not enough attempts.

It also helps that all three of Middleton, Calderon, and Kover are fun to root for.

Middleton was a 2nd round pick. He's a 3-time All-Star in his career. It's rare for a 2nd round pick to make 3 All - Star teams (I have no idea how many times that's been done).

Well Jokic is probably the biggest example, and he's a MVP, haha.

Calderon: He was an undrafted 2003 pick.

Korver: 2nd round pick.

So if you're looking for players who were overlooked in the draft, who went on to have near historic shooting seasons, these three are probably it.

I would have counted Jokic if he was closer to a 90% FT season.

I've never seen Smart have 10 assists in a half before.

That's the real "Smart Bomb"!

Haliburton has 12 assists and 43 points. Indiana loses by 1 to Charlotte.

He had zero steals. Maybe if he would have had a steal, Indiana would have won.

Lesson learned for next time, Tyrese.

I am not comparing George to Stockton, but Stockton came off the bench 15 games before he started. And we are also not an offense that has a point guard for is based on a traditional point guard play and so I feel this is impressive.

Be quiet, Jazz Twitter. I'd rather compare him across all rookies in history through their first three starts. That would be more meaningful.
