Wake wins an exhibition game against Piedmont International, 118-48. Piedmont International is much worse than your average pre-season exhibition team. They are coached by former Wake Forest great, Josh Howard, and they are located in Winston-Salem.

It doesn't matter how many highly touted players you have on the roster. All that matters is who can actually get the job done. Jeez, what is up with all these injuries???

So many injuries. I sure hope Chase Jeter got better.

Wake picks a commitment from Sunday Okefe. He's a preferred walk-on and a post player (6'8/6'9, 240 lbs). Word on him is that he has a questionable floor and a good ceiling. He had the opportunity to play on the mid-major level with a scholarship, but he is choosing to play major college basketball instead.

Needs to be pointed out that most of your standard walk-on's would be lucky to start on the Division II level of college basketball. That alone makes this a pretty good and interesting pickup Wake. I don't have high hopes for him, but at 6'9 and 240 lbs as an 18 year old, its another big body to practice against.

@jonvi, which recruits do you feel good about? SU looks to have a good chance at landing Quade Green, Jordan Tucker and Lonnie Walker.

Wake beats Radford, 80-59. Was a fun game to be at.

John Collins is a beast. Crawford, Woods and Childress look pretty good as well. Good luck scoring one-on-one on Doral Moore.

Like this team. Danny Manning is going to make Wake Forest Basketball great again! Well until they play legitimate competition. :suds:

How about this, Duke played and beat Marist on Friday. Marist got on the schedule to replace Albany because the Gov of New York has forbidden any "non essential" state funded travel to North Carolina because of the LGBT law.
Good thing Syracuse is a private school, or they would be facing 3 forfeits.
If there are any NCAA games in Charlotte and a NY public school qualifies would the NCAA make sure that school is assigned to another regional.
I assume this applies to all sports at all public NY schools (think Cornell's Lacrosse team not playing any of the top NC lacrosse teams). Too bad the Albany players didn't have the opportunity to play Duke because Cuomo is such a "stand up" guy. I doubt anyone in the State of North Carolina is concerned about SUNY at Albany.

Buying tickets for the Iowa - Notre Dame basketball game on November 29th should be a good one.

Boston College lost to Nicholls State on Friday night at home. This is a team that was 6-12 in conference play in the Southland last year, with an RPI of 313. Will Boston College really go back to back seasons going win less in ACC play? My guess would be that they will. Really, really stunningly bad. I bet the admins yearn for the days of Al Skinner. Always and forever be careful what you wish for.

To further add to my point. Al Skinner was 40-40 in conference games in the ACC and made 3 tournament appearances in those 5 years. Since then Boston College is 28-74(27%). And the best season they had(2010-2011) were with Skinner's players. Take that season out and Boston College is 19-67(22%). Just an incredible decline.

Al Skinner was a solid coach. BC's AD at the time was terrible. He was the one that fired Jeff Jagodzinski for interviewing with the NY Jets. The reasoning he gave for firing Skinner was low attendance. Ridiculous. Skinner had them very competitive.

Skinner's record at BC:

247-165 overall, 106-16 in conference play

That includes records from his first few years. BC was a mess when Skinner took over, because the previous coach was a scumbag and took all of their players with him to Ohio State. (Note: That isn't why Jim O'Brien is a scumbag. Many other reasons)

Once that re-building job was over, Skinner took BC to 7 NCAA Tournaments in 10 years.

Jay Bilas giving John Collins some love on Twitter:

Bilas' son is a walk-on at Wake, so if there is a national analyst out there that knows anything about Wake, its Bilas.

Yeah he really did a remarkable job at BC. If the previous AD thought the attendance was low then, wonder what he thinks now? They might have just lost to literally the worst team on their schedule. Might not even win 5 games this year.

That AD retired a few years ago. Minus hockey, their entire sports program is a mess right now.

Can we talk women's basketball in here too?

Florida State leads UConn 34-30 at halftime to start ESPN's Tip-Off Marathon.

UConn is one of two American schools I'd like to see join the ACC soon especially now that the Big 12 has backed down on expansion (for now, but things could change in a year or so). The other is Cincinnati.

This would allow geographic football divisions as follows:

North: Boston College, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech (all former Big East schools except Virginia)

South: Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Wake Forest (all pre-expansion ACC schools except Miami)

But seeing as this is a basketball thread the impact adding these two on football will only have that minor mention. Cincinnati and UConn are traditional basketball powers in both men's and women's basketball.

Of course Boston College would have to be a willing partner in this. I think the idea of a private school not wanting a public school in a certain conference is downright absurd especially given BC and UConn were Big East rivals for all these years. Cincinnati can certainly vouch for UConn, given both schools have a lot of former conference rivals that have moved to the ACC already.

The ACC is also launching a new cable network dedicated to their conference in a few years, and adding these two would bring in more programming for the network.

The ACC also plans to go to 20 basketball games, which I have developed a schedule format to go along with Cincinnati and UConn joining.

The 17 basketball schools would be organized into 4 regional pods as such:

Boston College, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Syracuse
Cincinnati, Louisville, Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Wake Forest
Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami

Most intra-pod series would occur twice a year, however the following would always be played 3 times a year alternating home court for the third game every year:
Boston College-Connecticut
Pittsburgh-Syracuse
Clemson-Georgia Tech
Florida State-Miami

The schools in the pod consisting of the NC schools would take turns as to which match-ups get played 3 times a year, resulting in each match-up between 2 NC schools occurring 14 times over a 6-year period.

All match-ups between teams from different pods would occur once each - 12 games for the 1 5-team pod, 13 games for the 3 4-team pods. That all adds up to 20 conference games.

So, yeah, the ACC needs to grab these two. Think of the opportunities.

One more thing about BC and Al Skinner--

After Skinner was fired by BC, there was a definite hatchet job done in on him by the local Boston media. Bob Ryan called him the laziest coach at a major conference school.

That is a big reason why Skinner wasn't hired to be a head coach anywhere until this past year at Kennesaw State.
