Cashman is the GM of the year already.

That's two incredibly stupid 7-year contracts in one offseason. Yet, they let the best player on the market walk because of contract length. I'd like to know what the 2nd highest bid was. I have a feeling it was no more than 5 years, $90M.

Crazy contract... and again a total overpay... But the yankees did need pitching and they did need youth... Tanaka gives them both... These foreign players are always a total different animal when it comes to the original signing... its like signing a top prospect in the free market... I am sure archie Bradley would have gotten a better contract if he went through the free agency...

6th largest contract ever given to a pitcher... for a minor leaguer who's never thrown a pitch in the bigs.

Yeah such a huge gamble. Now since it is the Yankees I hope he is the second coming of Irabu.

Well, they needed an SP (or two - I don't think they are done). If that is what it took to get Tanaka, good for them...

I think their priority now will be adding some infielders. Then see who is left for SP depth...

If nothing else I will say the Yankees had an ineresting offseason. Certainly a completely new look for the team. Granderson and Cano gone, McCann, Ellsbury and Beltran in. The Tanaka experiment will certainly get a lot of attention. Whether or not all these moves pan out remains to be seen but it will be interesting.

It's the opportunity cost that hurts them more than anything.

Not to mention Arod.

If he shows up in Tampa, Spring Training will be a three ring circus.

I have never been one to root for a player to fail and I certainly won't do that now. Wish him the best over here and I am sure he will do well.

As for the "Cashman GM of the year" it is pretty easy with an unlimited payroll to sign everyone they want. I am not saying that as a bitter Mets fan I am just stating the obvious.

I am assuming Balfour or Rodney are next to be the closer?

For purely selfish reasons I hope he does. It's such a delusional, fuck you move by him, it'll be entertaining as hell.

Well, they don't have an unlimited payroll, unless you've been living under a rock the past year. Secondly, who is suggesting for even a moment that Cashman is GM of the year? Finally, they have a closer. If they want to sign another experienced vet as an insurance clause, that's perfectly reasonable, as long as they don't overpay.

I did. Was just really giving props to Cashman for working his ass off this off season.

Cashman outbid the Cubs it seems. W/O a farm system, this deal was necessary for the now. He may be able to get attendance up, and I think he will have 2 to 3 really good years. His frame is not a Darvish, his throwing mechanics are not either, but he is bigger, beefier than Dice K. Dice K wore out quick.

Its years 4 through 7 this will be painful.

Still made no sense they spent all this money and Cano is sitting in Seatle.

Strange GM
