Good times! I do recall vaguely the time that Noggin ran out of infielders and had to play Huffer at second. :shudder: :gaah:

And then there was that time Huff played 2b because Boch ran out of IFs....

Cain named the Opening Day starter. I'm figuring the rotation will look like this:

Cainer
Bum
Freak
Tron
Zeets

Which means Tron for the Home Opener on my birthday.

What is the exact schedule for the WBC? Is there potential for Song missing any starts?

Cain, an opening day starter, while Jonathan Sanchez is trying to make a squad on a minor league contract..... is baseball racist?

World Baseball Classic: Schedule and Tickets

Pool 'D' contains Italy, Mexico, Canada, US.

US games in Round 1 (in AZ) :
Fri, Mar 8, 7:00 PM Fri, Mar 8, 9:00 PM Mexico @ United States
Sat, Mar 9, 7:00 PM Sat, Mar 9, 9:00 PM United States @ Italy
Sun, Mar 10, 1:00 PM Sun, Mar 10, 4:00 PM United States @ Canada

top 2 move on - you'd have to expect that in that group the U.S. would finish one of the top two.

Round 2, pool 2, at Marlins Park (Miami) Mar 12-Mar 16.

If the US is one of the top 2 teams and makes it out of round 2 into the championship round, then there are 3 games at AT&T park Mar 17-Mar19.

Vogelsong will prob pitch one game 3/8-10, one game 3/12-16, and maybe one game 3/17-19 (unless his back starts acting up ;) )

Tron is pitching March 9, according to Torre

We shall see...

I like Pill's bat, but I'm having trouble envisioning him as an OF. I see DH in his future. Perhaps we should trade him for a more appropriate prospect?

For the guys here going to ST, please let us know what you see in this regard.

Thanks.

Pill's future is in Japan, I think. He's not an outfielder. I'd have a hard time putting him on this squad.

Riot is a possibility, but I think that between Abreu and Tanaka (and Noonan, to a lesser extent), the org can save money and get similar production. I also doubt Riot will come back only to have to compete for a bench role.

I just do not think it is a good fit, unfortunately.

I think the OF spot is between Paggs, Kiesh and Gillespie (Cole, not Gonor)

Sabes has said Tanakas fate rests in his ability to play SS and 3b; early reports are that he's struggling with the throws from there. Pegs is a possibility but I think he should play everyday and Pill has experience as a MLB bench bat.
