Uggh.

Yep, read these stats in the newspaper today.

What can explain the massive drop for Timmeh?

2011 2.74 ERA 2012 5.18 ERA

2011 15 HR against 2012 23 HR against

2011 85 BBs in 217 IP 2012 90 BBs in 186 IP

I can't think of a pitcher who, entering his prime, completely lost it without being injured. Could it be...that Timmeh was juicing?

I think a definite possibility is that hitters are no longer swinging at his sinker, which was a killer for his first 3 years. That pitch was NEVER in the zone, and all hitters were swinging right through it. Now? Not so much.

I noticed in the playoffs, batters were back to swinging right through it, which was nice.

Also, last year (to my novice eye), he seemed to be missing high a lot, both wildly out of the zone and in the zone.

How can an entire league of players just not swing at only his sinker? I know these dudes are the best but they don't all have superman's eyes and the ability to read the spin before it gets to them. If what you think is true, I would suggest he's tipping his sinker. I thought for a while he might be tipping his pitches somehow - however if that was true I'd think they'd have straightened that out by now.

I think the biggest issues are 1) his command is somewhat lacking - which didn't used to matter when he was 2) throwing 97 and following that with an 86 change. But now that he's 91 and 83... These are major league hitters after all.

I don't think he was juicing. I think it's wear and tear or mechanics or both.

Why the hell did the Yankees claim Otero off of waivers if they were just going to put him on waivers themselves? Otero still has 2 option years left.

I think Noonan all but sewed up his spot on the roster with that swing of the bat right there. 2-out RBI knock to take the lead. That is exactly what the Giants wanted to see if he could do, getting pressure spot and coming through. He's played good, versatile defense.

Well, that's got to be it. Just roped a three-bagger. Give it to him!

Sandoval left after 2 at bats. His elbow was in discomfort.

Uh-oh.

I suppose the Dodger board would start a "Giant Shadenfreude" thread. That is, if there was a Dodger board. And if anyone ever posted on it.

This worries me, though.

Yup. I fear the worst with this whole situation.

Move Posey to 3B, hurry Susac.

I am sure tzill is in utter agreement on this.

At San Jose yesterday:

Evans also gave the lowdown on a few 2012 San Jose players who will start the year in Double-A Richmond. Evans said catcher Andrew Susac made the best of his time in Major League camp with the Giants this spring, where he studied with Buster Posey and the San Francisco pitching staff.
