You know what would help football? Removing facemasks. Seriously, then they wouldn't lead with their fracking heads. There are many ways to make the game safer...and they need to start implementing them. They're not difficult, but people are just so stuck in their ways they refuse to change. That's where the issue lies. I'll say it again, what's it going to take? A death?

Yeah, he's just an idiot...and people's response to the hit? "WHAT A BEAST! HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT HIS WELL BEING EVEN THOUGH HE COULD'VE JUST SHOVED THE GUY OUT OF BOUNDS! HE'S A REAL MAN!" Sometimes it sucks knowing too much about a subject like this...because then you can't enjoy big hits like that without criticizing those who give them out.

im just saying i wouldnt call him an idiot because he's not ... the sport of football (and hockey) is all about the culture of bravado ... i really dont think taking face masks off will do anything about it ... prime example rugby ... guys still dive headfirst into tackles

the only solution is to outlaw and punish hits leading with the head

and lots of people are outraged by that proposition

culture would have to change first

these pro athletes know the risks going in and they are paid well .. why do we have to save them from themselfs?..

It's kind of crazy to think that by Pee-Wee, I am going to have 43.33 almost exclusively in goal because it's safer. Speaking in averages anyway.

I have kind of a warped view of it all, though. There's just such a degree of luck involved, it's almost not worth worrying about. The worst injury of my BMX career was pretty brutal. But the neurologist said that had I been wearing a helmet, being unconscious for the few minutes I was could have caused brain damage due to swelling and having my head having nowhere to go inside the helmet. I was headed for a concussion no matter what.

I also know a kid who was in a coma after falling in a bath tub. Some things you can't control.

I've had four concussions, and I work with my brain. Live, be careful, don't take chances with ANY injury and recovery.

Played hockey since I was 5 and it was all fun until high school then it got serious. Played through college. Now much older I regret all of it. My knees, ankles are shot. My shoulders and neck are not much better. I have 2 kids and 1 plays soccer and the other softball. One asked about playing girls hockey and while I did not say no I kinda pushed her away from it.

All contact sports involve risk. Some major injuries happen while playing but ALL injuries will catch up to you as you age.

I got a minor concussion this weekend playing a game of non contact pick up roller hockey. You can't take all of the risk out sports, nor do I think that you should change the game too much* trying to do so.
