Should there be an Ernie Banks day??

I think that One of Manfreds first actions should be to enforce an Annual Ernie Banks day in MLB where every team plays 2 games that day. Good Idea or Bad idea????

From a fans POV, good idea. I like double headers and I think most fans do as well.

But why single out Banks over other greats like Williams, Musiel, Mays, Henderson, Ruth, etc?

I get it, I just don't think Banks rises to the level to be "honored" league wide like that.

A SB has not been renamed a Henderson.

A win has not been renamed a Wynn.

A save has not been renamed an Eckersley.

I agree with this. I would also help keep baseball out of November.

I will admit that MLB has done the best at honoring those that broke the color barriers. NBA and NFL have actually done a poor job of it. MLB may have taken it to the extreme.

I think the breaking of the color barrier was a big deal for those organizations. So, Jackie Robinson being honored the way he does is something other great legends of the game cannot say.

I agree that the Cubs should find a way to really honor him, but I don't think he had any kind of impact throughout the league to really have a league-wide day after him.

The gate would not be an issue. They accommodate that now with day/night double headers.

Because some teams sell out every game and they would lose major revenue by doing that. Having a day/night dbl header is not a problem. Empty the stadium and do a quick clean job, than open the gates again. Problem solved.

It make sense. Of course that means the league will have nothing to do with it.

Always went to Twinight double headers as a kid.

If Ernie's passing works as a reason to re-institute scheduled doubleheaders, Id be all for it.

Not many Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday sellouts league wide.
My support only goes to Twinight, not Day-Night. Those are just two games on the same day. And a nightmare for parking.

Maybe leave the twinight vs day/night up to the team? The Giants have sold-out every game for about 4 or 5 years now. Taking a home game off their schedule would be costly for them.

At the same time, they use dynamic pricing, so maybe it would not affect them as much as I think...

Ernie Banks is a big deal in baseball, a legendary figure, but his legend is hugely tied up in the Chicago Cub fanbase, and I think they should have first action on honoring him.

On the other hand, I would also love a double-header day or two in the schedule.

I like the idea, one day a year that every team plays a double-header.
